HP LaserJet 1022 is a "host-based" printer so it must be connected to a PC. Load the driver on PC first and connect the USB cable when software tells you to do so.
Will not work on a Linksys print server.
LaserJet 1022N & LaserJet 1022NW have "special" HP print servers that can support HP host based printers.
The HP Color LaserJet 5500 and the DesignJet 5500 are older printers with a parallel port on the basic model. A network card was added or available as an after-market add-on; this would connect to a router or network switch. Assuming you have the basic model and your laptop is new enough to only have USB ports, you need a USB to parallel port adapter. http://www.amazon.com/electronics/dp/B0007UVRVO is one model. (Note: the parallel port on the printer is a bi-directional port; you will need an adapter with bi-directional communication.)
I have a similar situation. Trying to print from a HP LaserJet 4 using a parallel cable to USB. It will not recognize the printer. What is the installation setup or what is the trick to get it to print?
