This system refers to a sensor in the drive that is meant to alert the system of possilbe platter damage.

I would take this to a professional to see if they can recover data of the drive for you.

The drive is damaged if the system is hanging during the check and most likely cannot be recovered. All you can do is buy a new drive and take it all to a data recovery specialist.

System completely locked out... will not boot!

there will be a setting in the BIOS that will stop the ACER logo, and you can see the Diagnostic screen, and get an idea of where in the process it is hanging....

Personally I bet it is hanging at the 'detect SATA' devices stage.

Open the side panel and remove and re-seat all SATA device cables, at BOTH the device and the motherboard.

If that fails, then the boot sector may need to be repaired on the hard drive. you will need a Windows disk for the OS that your client has though....although if it's an MBR disk you can use an XP or a win2k disk to repair. There are downloadable tools in iso format that you can burn and use to boot from the CD and then repair the boot-sector ...

Operating System not found VGN 8100B

What boot device priority was set in BIOS? I mean did it use to boot from hard-drive or any other media? Can your system detect any hard-drive attached? Can you run diagnostics? Please check the device & reinstall OS.

I'm trying to boot up Windows 98 and it hangs up at the Windows 98 logo. When I

test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions IDE SATA

the leads from your MOTHERBOARD TO THE HARD DRIVE make sure they have a

secure dust free connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty if its a flat 40pin ide

this will be the first to fail

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure dust free connections and are not faulty even the electical extensions

or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs power and data to travel through every working device and continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

make sure the CPU has a secure dust free seating with thermal paste

make sure your ram modules are securely seated with no dust in the sockets also the Cmos battery has charge with no dust in the socket
on some motherboards cmos batteries are soldered in

hope this helps

@rkbrown1_rb

If your Dell diagnostics shows no fault on the hardware (hdd, memory, chipset, videocard, etc.) but still same issue occurs, I recommend doing another test using a different utility. Try using Hiren's Boot CD that can be found here and try running the S&M Stress Test 1.9.1 and Video Memory Stress Test 1.7.116. If your computer hangs while doing the stress tests, the video card or CPU might be failing already.

Good Luck.

Hello, Abdi.

I have some suggestions for you. It's possible that your hard drive is failing. Run Diagnostics and check your hard drive. Upon boot, press F12 rapidly (or could be F2) and choose the Diagnostics.

Another suggestion is to use System Restore, in the event that your operating system file(s) is problematic. Again, boot your system to Safe Mode (press F8 repeatedly when powering on). Go to System Restore and choose a date when your system worked OK. Note: with System Restore, all your updates will roll back to that date. Follow the process.

Hope this helps.

That is the sign of a bad hard drive, or your OS being erased.

Run Dell Diagnostics

When the DELL™ logo appears, press <F12> immediately. Select
Diagnostics from the start menu and press <Enter>.
Run Hard Drive test
