Question about Cozy Enclosed Front Console Heater 70,000 btuh Natural Gas

1 Answer

When I turn on the heater, sometimes it comes on and sometimes it doesn't. The pilot remains lit. The repair person ruled out gas problems. Then he said it was the Thermostat but ruled that out and decided it was the knob. However, when the heater is cold, even turning the knob post manually does not activate the heater. If the heater comes on and heats up, I can turn it on and off at will.

It sounds like your problem is delayed ignition.

This can be caused by low pilot flame height (Clean the pilot orifice or increase the pilot gas flow if necessary, by adjusting at combination control valve). Or the burner ports near the pilot flame are clogged and need cleaning. But, don't enlarge the holes. Low gas pressure can also cause this, but your repair person already ruled this out. If you have a wall thermostat, the Thermopile or Pilot Generator (it's the same thing) may be weak and failing. It's not generating enough millivolts of electricity to open the gas valve, when the thermostat is turned up. Or the Pilot Flame is not always touching it. If it is the Pilot Generator, the Cozy Part # is 70098 and cost around $40.00. A talented service man can install it easily.

Generally, these are the first things that you troubleshoot for delayed ignition.
Hope this helped to get you started.

Pilot light blew out by a fan..I turned the control off..How do I Ignite Please

First locate where to light pilot. You can do this by following thin aluminum colored tubing from control valve to inside heater. In general on top of your gas control valve is a knob. Turn indicator of this knob to pilot and depress knob. This will start gas flow to pilot at end of thin tube. Hold this knob in the depressed position and light pilot. DO NOT release knob for 30 -45 seconds. Then release knob and pilot will remain lit. Then turn knob to on position. If pilot will not stay lit you may need a new thermo coupler, which senses heat from flame to keep pilot gas flow open.
Good luck

How to light pilot

Assuming it is not an electric spark, but is really the type with a real pilot light:
Move the gas control on the water heater to PILOT
Push the valve handle on the gas controller down to start the gas flowing to the pilot.
Using a match, light the gas at the pilot while holding the gas controller valve handle down.
Keep the gas valve handle depressed for 30 seconds after lighting.
Release the gas controller vale handle - the pilot should remain lit. If not, repeat lighting one more time
Once the pilot remains lit, turn the gas controller valve to On - this should cause the main flame to come on.

NOTE: DO NOT LIGHT A MATCH IF YOU SMELL A HEAVY CONCENTRATION OF GAS - CALL A SERVICEMAN AND VACATE THE AREA

Thermopile

Not thermopile. If your pilot will not remain lit, you need a thermo-couple. This is the device that allows the pilot to remain lit.
If you can't even get it lit, you will need to check if there is blockage preventing gas from coming out of the pilot orifice.

Rheem 22V50F1 pilot won't stay lit. Changed thermo couple & it lit, ran then went out. Let it sit overnight & it lit, ran then went out. What next? p.s. The unit is 5 years old. Thanks

If pilot lights and flame is robust and clear blue, and pilot goes out later, then some suspects can be excluded: air in gas line, low gas pressure, thermocouple is overtightened (finger-tight + 1/4 turn), thermocouple not positioned correctly in the flame, dirty pilot tube.
If flame is yellowish and small: then clean pilot tube and combustion parts.

Remaining suspects can include: air in gas line, low gas pressure, bad gas control valve, tight house so household vent fans pull air down water heater vent that blows out pilot, hot attic with inadequate ventilation, water dripping down vent.

My pool heater doesn't come on. The pilot is lit, and the valve to the ON position. I turn the front knub to heat but when I turn the switch on the front panel to ON it doesn't fire on (...

If your pilot light is lit, then you do have some gas flow, so it is probably the thermocoupler (the part heated by the pilot light) that is not telling the gas valve to open the main line. Sometimes it is just a case of residue on the thermocoupler that is not letting it get up to temperature and sometimes it has been knocked out of alignment and the pilot light is not putting direct heat on it.

A cleaning with steel wool (don't overdo it) would take care of the residue, and you can GENTLY move the thermocoupler back over the pilot flame. If neither of that helps then replace the thermocoupler.

Lennox G8Q3-90-4 will not ignite the pilot. The

While holding down the control knob for the pilot, you either have to use the pilot ignitor or match light the pilot. Then old the knob in for 60 seconds, before releasing it. If the pilot remains lit, turn the control knob to ON. If the pilot does not remain lit, the Thermocouple or Thermopile may need to be replaced.

Hope this helps you to solve the problem.

Pilot lites; but, as soon as I turn on gas flame

sounds like your thermacouplar is going out and needs replaced. Sometimes these will act like they are working fine , but when the pilot stays on for awhile and later goes out it is a sure sign that it is bad

Millivolt pool heater will not ignite

Most heaters do not require power for the pilot to remain lit. Is there power at he unit? If it worked yesterday and not today has anyone turned it off at the circuit breaker? If you have power turn the gas valve off for 10 minuets and then relight to see if it needed a reset.

Pilot Light will not remain lit

Try this, turn the black gas ****, on top of the control box, to the Pilot position. Set the temp. control on the front of the box to the desired temp. Then, hold a match or whatever else you use to light it, next to the end of the pilot, then, while holding the match to the pilot, press the reset button on top. When the pilot lights, continue to hold the reset button down for about 1 minute. Then, after a minute, turn the gas **** to the ON position, then it should remain on.
