Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have been trying to play DVDs on my Philips HTS6500 DVD Home Theater System. I have followed the instruction book using a Sylvania screen HDMI but most of the time the screen on the machine and on the TV says NO DISC no matter what buttons I push, Yet there is one DVD in particular which downloads perfectly. What is my problem? and how can I solve it?

Its either you have dirty disc or dirty lens, if its a dirty disc you can clean it up with toothpaste, yes toothpaste. if its a dirty lens you need a special kind of disc cleaner.

How to hook up a dvd recorder with HTS6500/37?

Suddenly had this problem. My Phillips is hooked up to TV and to Cable Box. When I inserted a DVD it would return a "no disc" but it would read and play CDs. After a call to Phillips...who said that they had no idea what was going on and I should take it in for service...it was 4 months out of warranty. Repair company said it was not worth the repair costs ($200) so I should try cleaning the lens with a lens cleaning disc. I bought a Maxell. It has a set of little brushes on the bottom of the disc. I inserted it and played track 2 for 20 seconds as instructed and voila! It began reading the DVDs again. I was only out the $10 for the disc cleaner. If you have this problem, try the disc cleaner first as it might be the fix.

I tried this and it worked.

If you are getting No Disc issues, blow on it using some compressed air. After I did that several times, my discs had no problems getting recognized and playing again.

Hdmi

Its not designed to play HD DVDs, the model has HDMI connection in order to connect to latest output devices, viz flats panels and LCD tvs there by having a common audio and video cable. your model has a feature to upscale the normal DVD singal to match the quality output of hull HD TVs, hence the HDMI out put, do not confuse this with HD compatiability.

Go to the link below to check the full specs of your system.

http://www.consumer.philips.com/consumer/en/in/consumer/cc/_productid_HTS9800W_55_IN_CONSUMER/DVD-SACD-Home-Theater-System+HTS9800W-55

though yours is a high end set, but its not HD disc compatiable.
