Question about LG Televison & Video

1 Answer

We bought this TV ex display and saw it working in the shop, but when we got it home, it wont' switch on. The power ligh pulses, but no combination of buttons brings the picture up. I've been told that it may be the parental lock, but can't work out how to get it to work. Any ideas would be great.

it's an LG 42LD690 - ZC - we had a look through the manuals and couldn't see anything, but may have missed the key bit on info.

We'd already tried pressing the power button before posting on the forum, so knew that didn't work and have also tried using a different power socket - even though the socket powers other things OK - but that didn't work either.

Doesn't sound like parental lock to me. Some TV's require you use the power button on the TV to turn them on after they've lost power. Try pressing the power button on the TV to turn it on. If that doesn't work comment back with the model number and I'll look up the manual for troubleshooting.

I'll assume that pressing the power button on the TV did not solve your problem. The next thing you can try is plugging it into another outlet in your house. Sometimes appliances won't turn on or give an error if they detect an outlet fault or not enough power.

Picture pulsing, tv turns off and on

Sounds like a power supply problem, If you are competent with electronics, you may find some blown capacitors or resistors on the power supply board. Equally you can probably buy a new power supply board.

WARNING: the power supply board contains lethal voltages even when switched off and unplugged. If you are unsure what you are doing take it to a repair shop.

Your need to replace the TV remote receiver. PN: 72795949. It will be located in the front of the chassis along and the control button board. This part is about $1. If you need a basic soldering tutorial, I have one in my Tips & Tricks. I hope this helps.

Lg Plasma Display settings keep switching

When you boot up your tv for the first time, you get to choose between home and shop-mode.
In your case, he TV is set to "shop-mode".
Then it will go back to factory settings after 5-10 minutes. (so that customers won't mess up the settings all the time)

So change the settings from shop to home, and your problem is fixed!

Booting Problem

Could be a power supply problem but suspect its a problem with the motherboard. Unless you have a spare power supply or testing equipment I would suggest you take this to the local repair shop. For $30 they should be able to give you a good idea if the power supply is shot (cheap fix) or the motherboard (more expensive). Be aware that I also found lots of cases where a bad Emachine power supply also damaged the motherboard as well.
