Question about Panasonic TC-P46G25 Flat Screen Plasma Television

1 Answer

TC-P46G25 - 3 months old and stopped working. Has 4 blinks. Repair says it needs an SC board and they are on back-order for 2-3 weeks. I want a new TV - am I justified? Thanks for any input you may provide.

Hello
There are two types of guarante that a company offers to a customer. You must read the warrany conditions very well before buying any product. Some of them will give replacement waranty to their product. Some of them will offer only warannty. For the first, if the set shows any problem during its warranty period, the company will replace it with a new one without any question. For the second, they give only wararnty to you. Not a replacement waranty. They have only to do is to repair the faulty set and get it back to you. That is all. Sometimes, there may be delay in getting the spare parts. Sometimes it may tak months. There is no predicted time for that. On some occations, they will ask you the cost of component, as thay claim that the failure occured by your use. If so, that amoun vertually contain their service charge too. I thinks that you got me.
So when you go to buy an other product, buy ony the product that the company assures replacement warranty for a period of 6 months or so. If you have bought the set without replacement warranty now, you will have to suffer. OK.

Never allow the dealer to cheat you. Panasonic has replacement warranty as I know. Insist on new one, and say, you don't want this set, which has failed during waranty period. For further complains, do it with company. Just surf in Google for simply entering . If your set is already in service warranty, do the needy as fast as you can, before the date expires. OK.

Thank You, this is helpful. I looked up my warranty and it states it may be (a) repaired, or (b) replaced, or (c) refunded, and the decision as to which to do is up to Panasonic. I will pursue replacement!

I have a Panasonic TCP55GT30 and the red power light flashes seven times.

I also had the 7 blinking lights and no picture on my TCP55GT30 16 month old TV. The diagnositics show a bad SC board. Panisonic will cover the cost of the board only. The $350 labor charge is mine to eat. I spoke to Panisonic and they basically don't care. They know they have a problem but aren't willing to accept it and recall the boards or cover the total repair cost. So for me I think the cost (25% of the total cost of the TV) on top of what I already paid for the TV is rediculous. This was supposed to be a state of the art, top quality TV, which it obviously is not. My $300 Emerson flat screen, 4 yr old TV work just fine. I wil never buy another Panisonic product in my life time. I understand that things go wrong with anything, but the difference is how the company handles the problem. Oh yeah, my brothers did the same thing at 12 months. Real quality.

15 months into owning our Panasonic TC P46S1 (3 months past warranty), the screen has gone black. The red light on the front flashes 7 times with a pause of 3 sec and then repeats. I have heard horror...

My suggestion is that you get an estimat from a dealer on repair costs and you decide whether you want to spen money on a part or new set. This is a bad circuit board and probably the power supply. The repair will be around $200.00 minimum unless you get lucky and there is no major issues and the board can be repaired.
The service manual says. you have what you call a "shut down circut" it is for safety and when one of the internal boards gets shorted or is not working properly, service doc reads as follows

7 Blinks SOS:
Pin 93 of the MPU IC9003 monitors the status of the SC, SU, SD board. During normal operation, the photo-coupler PC6480 outputs a low to pin 93. If the SC, SU, or SD board becomes defective, a high is provided to pin 93. As a result, the unit shuts down and the power LED blinks 7 times

thiera blinking 7 times is cuase by a fualt in sc,su,sd board.

If the board shorted another before it went dead you could have other issues, thats why you need a tech to look at it and give you an estimate. You never know, this being so close to warranty they might work with you on it.

TV Won't Turn On

Are you from US or Canada? I'm Panasonic authorized and allways Pana covered the warranty after 1 month from the expire date. Call Panasonic Viera service and tell them the story. I'm sure you'll get refound.
Anyway, a horizontal line doesn't mean the PDP is defective. It's one scan IC burned on the SU or SD board (depend where the line is). We allways replaced the SC bord each time SU or SD got burned. If after SD and SC replacement it still defective...yes the PDP has one scan line in short.
Call Viera and insist to get warranty. Let me know. Good luck!
