Question about iRiver MP3 & Digital Media Players

I have an iriver h10 20gb and it freezes every time it goes to perform any function, like when synchronising it accepts the first song then locks up and must be reset, or when playing songs i can't even get to the menu before it locks up. Can you please HELP

Hi,

This is a known and common issue with the iRiver H10. To be more specific, it freezes while initializing, syncing and/or playing. To address this concern, the manufacturer has:

  • posted a firmware flashing/updating/installation instructions here;
  • made available for download Firmware V2.51 here;
  • insights in Windows Vista Compatibility here.
This discussion might interest you.

Please be reminded that firmware flashing, formatting would delete all user configurations, settings and files.

Hope that this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

I purchased a used one of these a while back, it was a challange.
I like it but struggled with it the first 4 hours, reformatted it (nice feature) a few times using firmware updater program (download from iRiver) and started over. Once you understand it, it is actaully straightforward, but not as intuitive as hoped. Instructions say it works only with Win Media Player 10 but actually works great w/ the latest version 11. My advice - spend time cleaning up Id3 tags (Title, Artist, Album, etc.) before Sync-ing mp3s. Those tags end up being your folder structure for browsing your players mp3 folders (by album, artist, etc.). Had trouble prior to id3 tag cleanup, created unaccesible 'Unknown Artist' folder. Win Explorer interface locks unit up forcing you to push the reset/restart button (with a paper clip) so don't bother, stick w/ Sync-ing in WMP 11. What you save in $$, you'll pay back time spent understanding and making it work.

Try first resetting the unit then if you still have the problem refomrat it the last thing you can do if still have the rpoblem update the firware of the player..

You need to format again the HD and to reinstall software. Do a backup of files on your mp3 first.

New hard drive has trouble downloading songs & won't play


hi there, open iriver again and take new drive out (reinstall hard drive, just an adjustment process). close it up and try to download / play a file.
now if this process dont work, save iriver software to pc and format the hard drive (this will erase the hard drive songs and all)..now reinstall the software from the pc...download your songs back to iriver and you should have a brand new Iriver ihp-140............if heplful feel free to rate

Make sure you have the latest version of Windows Media Player. XP has all the right drivers but the iRiver needs to synchronise with Media Player inorder to transfer music onto the player using the sync function. Get Media Player 10 or higher then plug the iRiver into the computer.

XP should display it as a drive in "My Computer". It may require a firmware upgrade. This can be downloaded from T20 Firmware Upgrade V1.71

No Guarantees....Hope this helps.

My iriver e100 keeps freezing. I tried making a playlist and as soon as I select a song to listen to out of the playlist, the screen freezes and no music plays...


Hey guys,

I had a similiar problem. Apparently when you download music from limewire etc. and upload the music to your iriver, you can upload viruses also. Limewire is very dodgy for this. I'd say delete those songs that are freezing from your player and computer, they may be infected and causing the freeze.

Player locks up occasionally


Sound slike a corrupt DB. iRiver's website is one of the more helpful sites i've encountered, even though the good information is buried in a hidden location. Also, double check the menu for reset and recovery options - also available from iRiver website.

Tansferring Songs


Your problem sounds different from the one I had, but you might try the solution that worked for my problem: Go to a computer that has Windows Media Player Version 10 (not version 11), use iRiver's firmware update tool to install firmware version 1.77. Then, for me at least, my T10 worked on Windows Media Player Version 11 computers.

Frozen iriver screen


this problem seems to be common
it can happen if you dont safely remove the iriver from the computer
i havent found a fix for this problem anywhere
but ill purchace your iriver if you cant find a fix..

Iriver h10 20 gb hangs quite often


it is not recommended to initialize while synchronising this will fry a couple of circuits inside
