Did you check and thoroughly clean the brass bolt (main jet) that holds the float bowl on the carburetor/ If not, remove it, examine it, and thoroughly clean the very small holes in the bottom AND on the sides.

I would recommend using carburetor cleaner and flush out the jets.

Sounds like the fuel line/filter clogged. Most push mowers have a wire mesh screen. If the carb is mounted on tank then remove the carb you should see a plastic tube. At the bottom of that tube it the screen. Just hit it with carb cleaner and try that.

Machine is 1year old and after priming will run for 5 seconds will stall. I presume the carb is the problem. Is there a video on how to clean this properly for this model.

If there is a fuel bowl on the carb take that off and clean it out. There also should be a fuel jet possibly in the bolt that holds the bowl on. Make sure you blow them out and are clean. Make sure your gasket is replaced properly when reassembly.
You could run carb cleaner through it as well. Dirty carb sounds like your problem.

Won't stay running after prime runs out

starving for fuel. first check for bad/old gas, then restrictions in the fuel delivery including fuel line, filter, or buildup of debris in tank or any sharp bends or 90deg. fittings. then pull the float bowl and make sure the float is regulating fuel fuel into the bowl, but most likely your main jet is plugged. use a fine piece of wire like guitar string to runthru the jet located at the lowest part of the carb that hangs down into the float bowl. the jet will be on the side or bottom of this lower piece. put bowl back on, get gas to the carb and recheck starting problem. good luck. I own the 10685, mowed 6 times this year and on the 7th out of nowhere it developed a problem. Primed as usual, starts, runs about 30 seconds, quits. If I catch it in time I can hit the primer again and it...

Hi,
Just a suggestion O.K?
Carefully check the small fuel lines. To and from the bulb. Make sure the bulb fills with gas.( at least two thirds full. ) There is a small fuel filter on the end of a small fuel line in the tank. A small hook of stiff wire will dig that out. Good luck !!!!

My Troy Bilt Self Prop. Z-start won't keep running. I clean All, replace Filter and Plug, have clean gas and lubed all. It Starts for 2 seconds and then cuts off. What do you think it could be? Thanks....

I had the same problem, Tilt the lawnmower on it's side air filter facing up and remove air filter cover and air filter then remove the fuel bowl underneath the carb; then clean the fuel bowl with some gas and a clean rag. For the next step be sure to aim blower tip at target then look away before pressing trigger, this will prevent gasoline form getting into your eyes.Take an air compressor and carefully clean out the carb where the flap is and the tube where the fuel float that would rest inside fuel bowl is. Leave on side install everything back except for air filter and cover. Then pour a little gas in the carb to prime it, lay the lawnmower back on all 4 wheels and try to start.

Starts when primed but dies...

check your gas cap, try running it without your gas cap on and see if that helps if so id either replace it or drill a really small hole in the top as modern engines the fuel is gravity fed into the carb

Toro personal pace mower 5 yrs old only runs 10-15 seconds.

Was gasoline left in the tank during off season? Sometimes gas will break down and clog the jets in the carb. The priming bypasses the carb so when you put fuel in by pumping the bulb it runs, but dies becasue no additional fuel is coming through the carb after the primed fuel is burned off. Sounds like you need to clean the jets in the carb and in the future, use Stabil in gasoline to keep it from breaking down.

My lawn mower will not stay started

Since it starts, it doesn't sound like an electrical problem, it sounds like it runs out of air. To test this, remove the air filter, start it and see if it stays running. If so, replace the air filter.

It could also be varnish or sludge in the carb bowl. This is best serviced by a technician if you have little mechanical prowess.

After sitting for 3 years, I would at minimum do all of this before I expected it to run ok:

  1. Change the oil.
  2. Replace the air filter.
  3. Drain the fuel tank by removing the fuel line from the engine end (not the tank end).
  4. Replace the spark plug.
If the above did not work I would drop the carb bowl and clean it, then add one ounce of carb cleaner to a full tank, and let it run (roughly if necessary) through the engine.

After sitting 3 years I would also replace the fuel line itself!

Toro mower with clogged fuel line

That doesn't sound like a clogged fuel line, it sounds like your carb either needs a cleaning or a rebuild. If your fuel line was clogged than you wouldn't be getting fuel to the carb and you wouldn't be able to prime it. First check the smell of your fuel, if it smells stale then you sould empty it out and put fresh fuel in.Next take the air filter housing off unless the carb is exposed enough to get to easily. If you clamp off your fuel line (unless you have a shut off) so no fuel passes to the carb., wipe down or with an air hose blow off the bowl of the carb so there is no debris, pull the screw out of the bottom of the car., be sure to use a clean container to catch the fuel and look for any debris in the fuel. You can also take the bowl off and see what the inside of the bottom of the bowl looks like. Your looking for any debris or gelling of the fuel inside of the carb. if anything is noticed then the carb. is going to need atleast a cleaning. If a cleaning doesn't work then you may need a rebuild kit. Any qeustions on any of this please feel free to ask me.
