Question about Motorola Talkabout T5420 (14 Channels) 2-Way Radio

Open Question

I have a Motorola Talkabout T5420, it's been with me for years. Excellent performance, but due to the wear and tear of the unit, the antenna (rubber component) becomes brittle. Any idea where can I buy a replacement for the rubber covering antenna here in Philippines? Please help. Thank you!

Go to and choose your model from the pulldown menu. It will take you to the pdf of the manual.

As for your intermittent problem, you might check your battery, or battery connections. Clean with a pencil eraser if needed.

SOURCE: Antenna for a Motorola Talkabout 250

Parts are not available for the TalkAbout 250. Schematics were never available to dealers. To get an antenna you will need to locate a used 250. The antenna is not a screw on type, it is internally connected.

Replace a key actuator pad that is torn bad

The rubber key cover is one piece and not sold as a spare part. Take the radio apart, remove the pad and put a thin tape, such as a very high quality electrical tape and a small amount of RTV silicone under the tear. Reassemble, wiping off any extra RTV as you go.

Lost tranmission capabilities on one of the units, is there a way to reset. Last night it worked fine, turned of at night, tried to use this morning - no output!!! Any suggestions? Model T5420

The only way to really reset this is to remove the power/battery for 8 hours, press power button for 3 seconds, then wait 1/2 hour. Then try it again.

Get a plastic tube (3/8 PVC will work) and use it as a mould. Pump it full of black RTV silicone. Fixed!

Motorola T5420

You possibly have the "code" set differently on one unit. Check your programming, including the Qt filter, if any. Here is a link to the user manual:

Can't make the T5420 operate without the beeps!

I have not looked up the T5420 user guide, however, on most Motorola TalkAbouts you hold in the minus (-) button while turning the radio on. Post back if this doesn't work, and we'll find the manual for you.
