Royal FP Typewriter's left Magic Margin is not holding. How can I fix it?

There is a spring that holds the margin together locking in place, most likely the spring is gone or the teeth are broken.

Royal ET personal 510 plus Have no manual - how do I increase the impression to type on carbonless labels which are used to send pkgs. to the troops in Afghanistan.

there is no impression control on this machine. you might try putting it on BOLD by holding down the code button and locating the button that says BOLD on it and pushing it. repeat the process to take it out of the BOLD mode. otherwise you will need a different machine to type the lables. an old IBM selectric would probably work the best and a good used one should be fairly cheap

Margin settings

You have to hold the magic margin button down while you move the carriage all the way to the left, then release the margin button. Then repeat for thr right margin. Hold the right magic margin button down while moving the carriage all the way to the right, then release the margin button.

My keys are locled on my royal kmm 1941 typewriter

Margin Release should be near the top of the keyboard on the left or ride side of the keyboard. You may have a sticky margin lock bail or a spring loose or broken on the bail mechanism if the margin release doesn't work. Sometimes the linkage for the bail needs to be adjusted. If you are mechanically inclined, you can possibly follow it through, but if not, seek out a service tech.

Resetting the margins on a manual typewriter.

I can't be for sure if these are auto set margins, but it sounds like they might be. If they are, first move the carriage as far to the right as you can. Hold the Left Margin Set (not Margin Release) lever as you move the carriage all the way to the left. Release the Margin Set Button or Lever. Now hold the Right Margin Set Button or Lever (not the Margin Release), and move the carriage all the way to the right while holding the Margin Set. Once the carriage is all the way to the right, release the Margin Set. Move the carriage to the place you want to set your left margin. Hit the Left Margin Set and then release. Move the carriage to where you want to set the right margin. Hit the Right Margin Set and release it. It gets confusing, but Margin Release does not set margins. Its sole purpose is only to bypass the margins. Hope this helps.
