Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I'm using a HP dv6-1101ax notebook. Recently, we switched to using a Belkin F5D8235-4 wireless N Router. Every laptop in the network works fine except for mine, which constantly disconnects about 5-30 times (literally) a day. The wireless adapter is always turned on, but the network icon at random times indicates that there are no networks available, even though the router is literally 8 inches from the laptop. If I am lucky, the icon indicates that the network is available for reconnection. The quick fix to the problem is to disable and reenable the adapter then reconnect to the network, but the problem reappears "who-knows-when". Windows Troubleshooter says that it detected a "broken cable" (there IS NO LAN cable pluggged in) and there is "a problem with the adapter or access point" but doesn't do anything but to -as said - reset the adapter. I already tried switching wireless channels, disabling the computer turning the device off to save power, reinstalled the adapter driver, etc... with no luck. I also tried to check Gmail on Outlook 2010 today just to find a "enter your your username and password for the following server" prompt, which I fill in, then the prompt pops up again and eventually can't connect to the server. However, when I'm connected, I can surf any website with good speed. Gmail is still accessible via the web browser. 1. How do I solve the incessant disconnection problem? The problem is about a week old and my patience is running out. 2. Is the Outlook issue probably linked with the network issue? I didn't change any settings for Outlook. Hardware Stats HP dv6-1101ax Windows 7 Home Premium x64 AMD Athlon x2 64 QL-64 @ 2.1GHz 4GB DDR2 RAM Atheros AR5009 a/g/n wireless adapter Thank you very much!

You cant trust HP anymore, my dad had 3 of their laptops and they all did the same thing and after about a year the motherboard crashed.
I suggest if you are sitting near the router, then buy a short LAN cable to hook up, then it should work.
Hope this helps

My Dell desktop using Windows XP can't connect to my Belkin 5720 router but my laptop still works?

This sounds like a hardware failure, but just in case go to your computer Control Panel-Network Connections(Network and Sharing Center for Vista and above), and check your Network adapter settings. If your Network card is not showing, you may have a driver issue, or a bad NIC (Network Interface Card). It shouldn't matter that your router says" wireless hardware not detected", because you are hardwired from the computer to the router. I would check to see if you may have turned off, or blocked Ethernet connections on your router, I would then change my Cat5 (Ethernet) cable, and finally open the desktop and change out the NIC (Network Interface Card).

N1 Belkin to HP notebook - connection speed drops to 24mbps

It might be because of other electronic devices that works nearby in similar frequency...devices lik microwave oven, inverters, modems provided by the ISP which comes along with a battery backup, especially RCA modem which doesnt allows other wireless devices to work nearby it... try to relocate the router to a well ventilated area, and make sure you have kept the router atleast 5 feet away from other electronic devices...it could help....

Wont connect to belkin 54g with wpa security applied

Please try using Wireless 'G' mode only in the router. Also, try using 'TKIP' and not TKIP+AES for encryption.

Please rate this solution, if it works for you.

Sometimes my laptop does not conncet to the internet service home

Is wireless turned on? There is a slider switch on your laptop that turns wireless on and off. If it's on you should see a little blue light, if it's off it's amber-colored.

Next, make sure you're wireless security settings match those on the router.

Do you have a wireless adapter program on your laptop or are you using the windows wireless setup (if you R-click on the wireless icon in your system tray -down by the clock- and you select, "Connect to a Network" you should see available wireless networks. If there is a message that says Windows cannot manage your wireless connection, then you're using a 3rd party wireless manager. You need to find out what it is and if it's running it needs to be configured to work with your router.)

The router does not care what brand of computer that wants access, only a MAC address. If you can see it in the wireless scan then you have a configuration setting to resolve. Steve Medley

D-Link wireless router and Belkin Wireless G USB Network adapter

Set your wireless network as a preferred network and to automatically connect to it. Also set it at the top of the list so that it takes precedence. If you continue to get conflicts, change the channel of the router.
