Thank you. I tried of course before I knew.

Please advise which remote I need. I have a Philips SRU 5130 but that hasn't a " magic button/key " ( I assumed when trying, that theis was the DVD button, which flashes three times after action. I undestand fom browsing, that not all One-for-All remotes do the job so I need to be sure to get the right one.

Your help will be very much appreciated

    Hi BElectric

    Thanks for that info.

I bought the outfit in Spain and can only assume that it wasn't made for USA/ Canadian market.

I certainly will revert as and when I get the remote.

    Hi BElectric

Thanks a million! I've succeeded due to your advice.
    Just one other question please.

Is it a permanant solution which won't unravel after a few plays ?
    Best regards

    Hi BElectric

2020 was the code finally accepted.

I also seemed to need to input data twice in every case before getting a two flash on the Middle ring.
Also right at the end nbefore hard starting the kit, and where you expected the ring to flash continuously, it didn't flash at all so I took the chance and tried a disc. It worked !!

    Thanks again.

    Best regards

Hello John,

I don't know what you've been told, but you can only convert this player to region free using a programmable universal remote made by One-for-All. This cannot be done using the Sony remote supplied with the home theater / Blu-ray player. In addition, this player can only be made region free for DVDs - not for Blu-ray discs.

The MAGIC key is on One-for-All remotes, not on your Sony remote. Please do not attempt to apply any instructions you've received to your Sony remote. You should also note that unlocking the player will invalidate any warranty which is still in effect.

If you have a programmable One-for-All universal remote, please let me know and I will explain the instructions for unlocking the player in more detail. If you don't have one of these remotes, you will need to buy one before you can unlock the player. Only certain models of One-for-All remote are suitable for this purpose.

Regards,
BElectric

    Hi John,

You did not indicate that you read my previous comment. If your Blu-ray / DVD player was made for the North American market (USA/Canada - Region 1 / Region A), it cannot be unlocked. It has an extra chip to players made for other countries. If this chip is removed the player wont work.

Assuming this is not a North American player, one of the following remote controls made by One-for-All can be used to unlock the player.

    URC-3741

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/180641972017

    URC-7960

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/170611594129

There are others which can be used but some of them are quite expensive so I would suggest on of the above. If you don't have an Ebay account, they can be obtained from other suppliers.

Assuming your player isn't North American. please let me know when you have obtained one of these remotes and I'll explain the unlocking method in detail. It's quite complex in comparison to most region hacks.

    Hi John,

As you bought the player in Spain, it's unlikely to be a North American model, so it can probably be unlocked. Let me know when you have obtained one of the remotes listed and I can assist you with unlocking it. I think you already have the instructions for this, but they do vary slightly depending on which remote you use.

Let me know which remote you have ordered and I will provide the correct instructions for that remote.

    Hi John,

Was wondering what had happened to you. Please could you let me know which model number remote control you bought so I can give you the exact instructions.

I apologise for the delay in replying to you, but I'm having some PC problems and need to reinstall everything, so replies from me may be a little slow.

    Thanks,
    BElectric

My apologies John. I had some nasty malware and had to wipe my drive and reinstall everything. I've had quite a few messages to catch up on and I missed one or two. I will write out the instructions for you and post back with them within an hour.

On checking, I did notice that you never actually confirmed the model number of your DVD player. I'm working on the basis it's the BDV-E370 as was listed above your other question. If this is incorrect, please let me know, although the same unlock method does work on several different players.

** NOTICE TO ANYONE READING THIS OTHER THAN THE INTENDED RECIPIENT **

This is a region hack for setting the Sony BDV-E370 to region free. This also works on some other Sony Blu-ray players. These instructions have been modified from others available elsewhere on the internet and are SPECIFICALLY for use with the One-for-All URC-7960 universal remote control. If you are using a different model of One-for-All universal remote, you should read the instructions supplied with your remote for entering the device code and assigning commands to the number keys as they may be different.

    ** NOTICE TO ALL **

Unlocking any Sony DVD player will invalidate the warranty and is done AT YOUR OWN RISK.

    OK John . . .

There are 3 parts to this. I'll explain what each one does as understanding it rather than just pressing a load of buttons should help you to unlock the player.

    1. Programme the remote with the correct code to operate the DVD player

    2. Assign commands to specific keys on the universal remote control

    3. Transmit the commands to the DVD player to unlock it.

I'd suggest you print these instructions if possible, and keep them in front of you while programming the remote.

    Programming the remote:

This part is simply for setting up the remote to operate the DVD player.

    1. Switch on the DVD player

    2. Hold the magic key for 3 seconds - the blue ring will flash twice.

    3. Press the RIGHT arrow key repeatedly until dvd is illuminated.

    4. Press 0533 - the blue ring will flash twice again

    5. Point the remote at the DVD player and press the POWER key (top right corner) . . .

    - If the DVD player switches off, proceed to part 2 (assigning commands) below

    - If the DVD player does not switch off, repeat steps 2 to 5 above using code 2020 in step 4

I've listed 2 codes here as the instructions state the 0533 code needs to be used for unlocking, but 2020 is actually the correct code for your player.

    Assigning commands:

This part assigns the specific commands for unlocking the player to the number keys on the remote. Five number keys - 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 - need to be assigned.

    1. Press the RIGHT arrow key repeatedly until dvd is illuminated (see step 3 above)

    2. Hold the magic key for 3 seconds - the blue ring will flash twice.

    3. Press 994 - the blue ring will flash twice

    4. Press the magic key once and release (do not hold it)

    5. Press 00189 (this is the specific command code)

    6. Press 1 to assign this command to the number 1 key - the blue ring will flash twice.

    7. Hold the magic key for 3 seconds - the blue ring will flash twice.

    8. Press 994 - the blue ring will flash twice

    9. Press the magic key once and release

    10. Press 00255

    11. Press 2 to assign this command to the number 2 key - the blue ring will flash twice.

    12. Hold the magic key for 3 seconds - the blue ring will flash twice.

    13. Press 994 - the blue ring will flash twice

    14. Press the magic key once and release

    15. Press 00095

    16. Press 3 to assign this command to the number 3 key - the blue ring will flash twice.

    17. Hold the magic key for 3 seconds - the blue ring will flash twice.

    18. Press 994 - the blue ring will flash twice

    19. Press the magic key once and release

    20. Press 00221

    21. Press 4 to assign this command to the number 4 key - the blue ring will flash twice.

    22. Hold the magic key for 3 seconds - the blue ring will flash twice.

    23. Press 994 - the blue ring will flash twice

    24. Press the magic key once and release

    25. Press 00221

    26. Press 5 to assign this command to the number 5 key - the blue ring will flash twice.

All of the commands are now assigned and you are ready to unlock the player!

    Unlocking the player:

This part transmits the specific commands you programmed in part 2 to the DVD player to unlock it.

    1. Remove any disc from the player

    2. Switch the player to off (standby) then switch on again using the original Sony remote

    3. Make sure the One-for-All (URC-7960) remote is in dvd mode - press the RIGHT arrow key repeatedly until dvd is illuminated near the top of the remote

    4. Press 1 2 3 4 5 on the One-for-All remote.

The 24p light on the player will start flashing.

    5. Switch the player to off (standby) using the original Sony remote

    6. Disconnect the player from the power supply. Failure to do this will result in the 24p light flashing indefinitely!

    7. Connect the player to the power supply again and switch on

    8. Play a disc from a region which was previously locked to test

    - If the disc works, your player is now region-free for DVDs only. The Blu-ray region cannot be unlocked.

    - If the disc does not work, try part 3 (unlocking the player) a couple more times to make sure you have done this correctly. If the 24p light does not flash after step 4, you have either not assigned the commands to the number keys correctly or the wrong device code was used in part 1. If you used code 0533 in part 1, try again using code 2020. If you change this device code, you will also need to assign the commands to the number keys again.

Finally, if you have successfully unlocked the player, you should reset the assigned number keys 1 to 5 to avoid accidentally sending the commands to the DVD player again in future.

    1.

Make sure the One-for-All remote is in dvd mode - press the RIGHT arrow key repeatedly until dvd is illuminated near the top of the remote

    2. Hold the magic key for 3 seconds - the blue ring will flash twice.

    3. Press 994 - the blue ring will flash twice

    4

. Press the number 1 key

    twice

    to reset/delete the command

    assigned

    to key 1

Repeat steps 1 to 4 above for number keys 2, 3, 4 and 5, pressing the number key to be reset twice in step 4 each time, e.g. press 2 twice to reset key 2.

Unlocking this player is fairly complex in comparison to other players and the instructions need to be followed carefully and to the letter. Please take your time and make sure the lights on the remote flash as described at each stage when programming it.

If you get stuck or lost at any point, just start again from the beginning. If you need further explanation of have any questions prior to starting, please post another message here and I'll get back to you asap.

Good luck! I'll wait to hear back from you . . .

  • DILLIGAF
    DILLIGAF Apr 30, 2011

    Hi John,

Great to hear it's finally unlocked! I appreciate you letting me know. Re-interpreting this region hack for your specific remote was a bit tricky. One tiny error and it wouldn't have worked, so it's good to know I got it right. You got yourself a good universal remote there as well.

For future reference, did you use the 0533 code or 2020 in part 1?

Region free is permanent so long as you don't update the firmware. If you update the firmware, you will probably need to apply the hack again - and it may not work! When region hacks for players have become known, they are often disabled by the manufacturer in later firmware versions. If you need any information on firmware updates, please let me know.

I'd appreciate it if you could accept this solution and close this question. You can still post messages to me on this page after doing so if you have any further questions or need further assistance. Not entirely sure how you do this, but I think the option is about half a mile back up the page, under the first message I posted.

    Thanks,

    BElectric

How to unlock region free on U.S sony bdp-s350

Sony BDP S350 bluray - unlocking to region free Yes, it is possible, but you'll need a programmable remote - most use the "one for 3/4/6/all". You can hack it by using the same code as for the bdp-s350. Follow the instructions exactly and it should work - mine does.

Programming the 7040 OneforAll remote to enable region free playback of DVD's on the Sony BDP-S350 Quote: 1. Press DVD 2. Hold the magic button until the DVD button flashes twice. 3. Press 0533 4. Hold the magic button until the DVD button flashes twice. 5. Press 994 6. Press Magic Key (don't hold) 7. Press 1891 (this sets key 1 - the DVD button flashes twice) 8. Hold the magic button until the DVD button flashes twice. 9. Press 994 10. Press Magic Key (don't hold) 11. Press 2552 (this sets key 2 - the DVD button flashes twice) 12. Hold the magic button until the DVD button flashes twice. 13. Press 994 14. Press Magic Key (don't hold) 15. Press 0953 (this sets key 3 - the DVD button flashes twice) 16. Hold the magic button until the DVD button flashes twice. 17. Press 994 18. Press Magic Key (don't hold) 19. Press 2214 (this sets key 4 - the DVD button flashes twice) 20. Hold the magic button until the DVD button flashes twice. . 21. Press 994 22. Press Magic Key (don't hold) 23. Press 0795 (this sets key 5 - the DVD button flashes twice) Done - the remote is now programmed and ready to use Quote: 1. Now to make your player region free use the Sony remote that came with the player to bring it out of standby and wait while HOME is displayed 2. Make sure there isn't a disc in the machine. 3. Now on the OneforAll remote press 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (The blue 24p light on the player will start flashing) 4. Put the player back into standby with the Sony remote 5. That's it, the next time you turn on the player it will be region free for DVD playback If the blue 24p light doesn't flash then it hasn't worked, try a new set of batteries and start a fresh Good luck
