Question about HP 49g+ Calculator

1 Answer

Hey I'm Elena. See, I bought a brand new HP50 last christmas. Everything went alright at the beginning, when I first started using it. After not using it for 2 weeks, it said on the screen the batteries were low. Since they were the ones the HP brought with it when I bought it I put some new ones and solved the problem. I used it for about a day, the calculator must had been on for about 1 hour, not more than that. I stoped using it for 1 and a half months, the batteries were new bought batteries that had been used for about an hour since I had stuck them into my calculator. Today, I tried to turn it on. I won't turn on. I've tried to remove them and place new batteries (even though the ones I put the last time have barely been used!) but hey... nothing will happen =/ The HP has remained in my dry, warm room for the last 3 months. Hasn't been exposed to agressive conditions or anything... What's wrong with it? Does it have a simple solution I can perform in my own house or should I use the guarantee and try to get a new one? Does this happen often? Sorry for the long email. Thanks for reading and beforehand... thanks for writing back. Elena Jordana

    Thanks a mil!
It didn't work... but I still have the guarantee. Since I only bought it 2 months ago, getting a new one should be no problem =)
Thanks again! I'll let you know what happened to it. In case you want to know... out of curiosity.

Welcome to FixYa!

Here's a list of things to do if your HP49G calculator does not turn on.

1. Replace the batteries. (which you have done already)
2. Press and hold "ON" then press "+" several times, then release "ON".

If chacracters still doesn't appear in the main screen, reset the calculator:
1. Press and hold "ON" then press "F3", then release both keys.

The calculator should reset. If not:
1. Insert the of a metal paper clip into the hole at the back of the calculator. Insert as far as it goes. Hold for 2 seconds then remove the clip.
2. Press "ON".

If that does not fix the problem, the calculator needs to be serviced.
Note: always use alkaline batteries.

I hope this helps.
Thank you for using FixYa!

New bright 19.2v nicd battery problem

I have purchased 2 remote controlled toy cars from Costco over the years. These New Bright batteris and charges last only a few charges, and then they go bad. I am disappointed. I will go to Walmart and buy a new battery and see if it works better, if not, i will return to Walmart.

Power light blinks, but tv won't come on

I have the 52" version of the Viera model. Mine went out last night and started blinking twice over and over again. I suspected overheating so i just went to bed and tried it in the morning with no luck. Then I unplugged it for more than ten minutes and plugged it back in and everything worked fine. I hope this helps.

This might be a crazy question

Depends on the amount of use and the amount of turning it on and off. Typically, not very long. The best rechargable batteries I have found for longevity are the Rayovac Hybrid rechargeables. They last a long time and when you buy them, they are already charged and ready to go. I bought my mom a new camera for Christmas and bought her this with the charger.
