Question about Dell Latitude E4200 Notebook

2 Answers

Hi all, suddenly my drink, a quite sweet liquer Ramazzotti was falling on my keyboard and now some of the keys are sticking quite a lot. I tried to clean with some alkohol wich easy evaporates, but unfortunately the Ramazzotti is only delutable by water, as I realised. Its with a lot of suggar. So how can I clean it? Is there a plastic foil underneath the keys or will the water go directly into the electronic, if I flush it with water a little? Its only on the right side of my Latititude E4200. Thanks and best regards Chris

Hi,
your best try to clean up your keyboard is to remove it from your laptop to make sure no spilled water can damage it. You can follow dell's official how-to to remove the keboard (you can find it here http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/late4200/en/sm/keyboard.htm#wp1179980) and clean it safely away from the laptop.
Hope it helped,
Franz

This is a tricky situation.
I suggest you use a damp cloth, make sure it is damp, then use that.
If that does not help, then try try again.
If you need to get in tough cracks, use an earbud dampened to get inside.
Hope that helps

Soft drinks are the worst, sugar! Unplug, remove battery, dissemble and get access to all connection to the keyboard, usually a ribbon cable, or other connector/plug. Use Electronic Contact Cleaner Spray on the connections and connectors. Sometimes the magic works, sometimes it doesn't.

Does chocolate liqueur have any alcohol in?

People get confused between chocolate liquor and chocolate liquer. Chocolate liquor contains cocoa beans and cocoa solids in roughly the same proportions. The beans have been dried, fermented and roasted and then taken out of their skin. Then they are ground into cocoa mass which is then melted into liquor which is not alcoholic.

Chocolate Liquer on the other hand is an alcoholic drink that is used in desserts, aperitifs or just drunk by itself.

Get a can of compressed air and see if blowing on the keyboard will help. If not then Try a keyboard cleaning kit:

I have a logitech keyboard , suddenly the right arrow key is not working , is there a solution? please help me.

HI:
You might try removing the key and checking for foreign object matter that has become logged under the key. Not allow it to make contact with the circuit board contact pads.Or just turn the keyboard upside down while tapping the back to see if anything falls out of the unit.

I use my computer for gaming and when i move around with the arrows they stick sometimes in one of the directions un til i tap that key again, is this common for the classic keyboard 200?

Logitech keyboards are excellent both in quality and longevity.
Make sure some sugary drink has not been spilled on the keyboard.
This will make the keys stick and repeat. I have had good luck with Dawn and warm soapy water. Just make sure the keyboard is completely dry before putting back into service. 1-2 weeks drying time. (IF you dunk and submerge. Only the most severe)
Never EVER dunk a laptop in water to clean the keyboard.
I know I know... but someone will try it. :)

Check to make sure the windows sticky keys are turned off.
Sounds like dirt or a soft drink is causing this repeating pattern you described.

Good luck!

The keys on my keyboard keep sticking. this is a

HI,

If the keyboard is so new that you can take it back with the receipt, you should do so. Some keyboards are just not made very well, or if normally a good product, you may simply have a defective one. No reason to keep it if you can return it. There is not an adequate way of fixing keys that stick. Usually that can be caused by spilling something like a sugary drink or coffee onto it, or if it has been exposed to direct sunlight for a long period of time, which could cause the plastic to warp.

Does your laptop have a touch pointer within the keypad? This can cause the problem you're experiencing. Did you try turning the track stick off in the touchpad settings?

Laptop Cleaning/Repair

That is something that you should not attempt .. Because most likely you will need to replace the keyboard...
If they are just not working because they are Sticking or Stuck, you can repair this by yourself....you can remove the keyboard and clean it, also checking the ribbon cable that goes from the keyboard to the motherboard... look for any burn spots near the keyboard plug connection, chances are that just simply replacing the keyboard would fix it ..
You also will need the entire laptop taken apart to see if the "drink" spilled onto other parts, or worse... the motherboard...

You have a numeric keypad built into the keyboard, press the function button (FN) followed by the number lock button (num lock). Hope this helps.
