The normal temp. from 70 to 90 deg cent., if it is in range do not change thermostat.
thermostat range from 92 to 82 so the cooling fan work on 92 and stop on 82 ,check it is written on thermostat.

My pontaic bonneville gxp is running hot. I change the thermostat, got it flush out. A mechanic problem may be the head gaskets or i may have to change the north star engine

several points to consider
when is it running hot ---if at lights on in slow traffic then it may be the viscous fan hub has failed
have a compression test done to eliminate gasket problems
was the thermostat installed with the body facing the water in the head/block
are the fins on the radiator in good condition or are they flaking off
If the engine is running good generally forget the advice to change engine
after replacing the thermostat it is important to ensure that all air is removed from cooling system as that will make the engine run hot as well

Car makes a rattling noise like a wate rpump going bad when I slow down. But when I come to a stop and dinengage the clutch, the noise stops.

The heater bypass valve is located BEFORE the thermostat, so if your heater gets hot, your thermostat could be stuck closed. If there's any suspicion that the car is too hot, always change the thermostat (since it's a hassle to take it out, you might as well change it), and also check to see if you have enough antifreeze. The 4 banger Integra motor always runs hot, the temp gauge showing the needle almost half way. This is normal. Your noise sounds like the clutch needs adjustment, or changing. Another check you could do is test the fan relay (at the radiator). If it's faulty, that would explain why your car runs hotter than usual. #24 and #25 in the diagram.

Runs hot no heat inside top hose hot lower hose cold

Radiator is either clogged,or it's bad. You could also check the heater core.

Frontier 2000 2.4L King Cab 100K miles. Temp guage indicates overheating. Will intermittently spike then drop to normal. Engine does not "smell" hot or run rough at any time. Grab upper hose, you can...

I've had problems with Datsun (later Nissan) engines hanging the closed thermostat until it boiled, then the thermostat released and operated normally. If you increase the small vent hole in the thermostat valve plate a small amount, the problem disappears. It seems that steam from engine operation gathers behind the thermostat sensing bulb and delays opening. The increase in vent hole size lets the steam through and allows the hot water to open the valve. Hope this helps!
