Question about PC Desktops

I have a Roland Camm-1 CX-24 cutting machine that has a parallel connection. I have recently bought a Dell Inspiron 1720 with a Windows Vista OS. I have a USB to Parallel cable to connect the two. I have downloaded the driver for Roland Camm-1 CX-24 compatible with Vista from the Roland website. This cannot be installed as Vista with USB so I was given the instruction to install it to port LTP and then try and print a sample going through each port on the list in turn until the printer reacted. I cannot get the printer to react. Every port comes up with printing error apart from COM3 and USB003 which do nothing at all and it doesn't seem to communicate. Any advice on what I'm doing wrong? Is it the cable, the Vista or the method? Thanks Laura

Roland has Parallel socket to connect to. My PC is laptop and so does not have parallel port, I must connect by USB. I have a USB to Parallel port cable to do this but it doesn't seem to work.

    Thanks x

Connect the printer and the comp. and boot up....windows should recognize the new device.
did you add the plotter to "add printers" and its driver and to the correct port?
make sure your plotter is on and loaded and function key pressed.
also some cable manufacturers supply a driver...so download one if need be.
what software are you using? is the software cutter driver set to the correct printer and port?
(by default it never is)!!

Your operating system is windows vista and the port supported by your roland camm-1 is parallel and com port? and do you have a parallel port on your pc? if you have a parallel port on your pc you connect from there that is LPT port. and install the driver.

Can someone tell me how to use my Roland CAMM-1 CM300 Pro vinyl cutter with Windows Vista as it's a pretty old machine and I think will only work with Windows 98

You should Buy a newer Model, Vista will not detect it. That is why Vista was a mistake... I like Linux Computers much better

Roland vista problem

maybe you did not install it properly.try this turn off your cutter. plug the cable to you pc. make sure your pc is on. then turn on your cutter. then windows vista will detect new hardware then continue installation make sure you point to the correct folder. then you will see in the taskbar that says installed new hardware and ready in use. please install also the software bundled with the cutter. or if it support corel draw you can start designing and make sure that you put an outline on the object. example letter "t" put an outline on letter "t" and try plotting it. maybe this will help.
