First, thermal printers can use ribbon. Many Zebra printers will work either way. They use a thermal transfer ribbon where the printhead melts the ink onto the paper.

Second, no, the ribbon will not fully unwind off the spool during use. The printer will detect a "ribbon out" condition before that happens.

When the usable ribbon is out, either cut the ribbon or pull the end off the spool, unlock the printhead, and pull the ribbon tail through. You will need to unlock ("open") the printhead anyway to install the new ribbon.

Thermal printers don't use ribbons or ink. They transfer images/text with heat on to special thermal paper.

Hey, is this possible to replace/upgrade the print head to 203 dpi to 300 dpi in zebra ZD50042-T113R1FZ printer ?

It is not. The DPI is part of the main board of the printer. if you change the print head, you must change the electronics. There is no reasonable way to do what you are asking. At least not cost effectively. It would be cheaper to buy a 300dpi printer.

Zebra 105sl printer labels print too small

There are 3 different DPI Printheads for Zebra printers if you print a label set up for a 200 DPI Printhead on a printer with a 300 DPI Printhead installed it will be about 66% of the size.

I have brand new Zebra 220Xi4 (203 dpi) and i was printing labels very good, but suddenly the printer keep saying riibon out but there is a ribbon and a media A4 format, i try to move the sensors inside...

read your instructions to calibrate ribbon and label sensors. if you dont have it you can download it from zebra. if that doesnt work dont mess with it and contact zebra for more help. i dont think you can move the ribbon sensor at all. just make sure no label debris is on it

Our zebra zm400 is set to ****-off and everything seems fone for a while, then the backing take up roll (rewind) stops rewinding and the backing starts to hang down the front.

Go into the setup menu and check to see if it is currently in **** mode. Or print config to verify mode. If it changes from (****) to tear or rewind, etc. , then the driver is set wrong. Change the driver to **** mode.

Keep getting broken ribbon message on zebra P330i printer

Hello, assuming the supplies are Zebra and there is no discernible damage to the ribbon, it could mean that the ribbon sensor on the printer is broken. if your printer is still under warranty you can ship back to Zebra (Illinois) to get it repaired. The zebra website has info on how to return printers for service. Hope this helps.

No print with ribbon

Did you put a ribbon in your printer? The zebra does both direct thermal and thermal transfer, but you need a ribbon to get it to print AND have to change the settings to let the printer know that it needs to use the ribbon instead of direct thermal.

Print Width Issue

the issue you are having is DPI related, when data is sent to the printer and rendered it is dot for dot, so a Z4M 203dpi printer has about 800dots on the printhead where your printer has about 1200dots on the printhead. so when your software prints to dot800 thinking it is the edge of the label it is infact at 60%. there sould be an option in the software to configure around this. if not the is an option in the printer to convert DPI setting ie 150>300 or 100>200 and so on. but i don't thing you can make a 300dpi print as 203dpi

best of luck
