Question about Zebra Stripe S600 Thermal Label Printer
First, thermal printers can use ribbon. Many Zebra printers will work either way. They use a thermal transfer ribbon where the printhead melts the ink onto the paper.
Second, no, the ribbon will not fully unwind off the spool during use. The printer will detect a "ribbon out" condition before that happens.
When the usable ribbon is out, either cut the ribbon or pull the end off the spool, unlock the printhead, and pull the ribbon tail through. You will need to unlock ("open") the printhead anyway to install the new ribbon.

Thermal printers don't use ribbons or ink. They transfer images/text with heat on to special thermal paper.
