I have a canon S2 IS. It just stopped working one day. A few times I tried to change the batterise, and the dark screen continued to show the message "change the batteries" after a while there was no message. The camera is just unresponsive. I love my camera. Any suggestions are welcome.

Email Canon with your problem. I had a Canon S1 IS camera. It failed on me in June 2008. It started to display lines across the Lcd screen intermittently, until a week later it completely failed. It would turn on but no display on screen when switched to camera mode.
I emailed Canon and they replied to send it to them and if it was a malfunction with the camera they would repaired it free of charge. I sent the camera to Canon ( Canada) and 2 weeks later they sent me a new S5 IS because the faulty ccd image board was on back order. I am very happy with Canon and would continue to purchase Canon products because of their customer service ....they seem to stand by their products.

Digicam problem

Is it rechargable batteries (orignal for the camera), or are you using standard batteries? (AA/RC6 kind of batteries)

If you use AA batteries (or similar) make sure you use alkaline batteries of a good brand. Cheap batteries ofteh don't have the power to run digital cameras. Especially using the LCD screen drains the batteries.

If you have a new rechargable battery and it last only a short time see if using it and recharging it a few times helps the bettery "getting into it". If not, your camera may need repairs.

No power

Both your camera and the battery have a warranty, so I would call Canon and they may replace your battery out of goodwill even though it has been more than 30 days, if you provide your proof of purchase, this is always a avoid having you have to purchase one or send camera in for service. No guarantees of course, but you should at least give it a shot.

Before doing that, remove lens, battery, memory card and date time battery which is a 3v coin battery located in your main battery compartment. It reads cr12203v on the top and you probably never knew it was there, but try to find it and slide it out gently.

Next replace the batteries and try to power on and take a shot without the lens. If this works, try adding the lens, if this works add the card and if this works, your problems are over. If it stops working at any point along the way, you know it is whatever the last thing was that you added that is causing the problem.

Either way, call Canon and their free tech support will help troubleshoot over the phone with you and set you up for service if they deem it necessary. They may ask you to send in battery and charger also to determine if there is a problem with either of those.

If you want to just try another battery, if you have time, stop by a camera store and ask if you can use the display model's battery if they have one. Most stores are ok with that.

Hope this helps!

Sony DSC-S650 ( 7.2 MP and 3x zoom) - Not working

I have the same camera and have had the same problem. The first time I had to change batteries I could not find lithium batteries and ended up trying alkaline batteries. I was only able to take 1 or 2 pictures before they would die and the camera would shut down. When I switched back to lithium batteries, everything worked fine. I hope this helps.

Partly open lens

Has anyone tried a hard reset on their camera by removing the main power batteries for 60 seconds and the reinserting them as if it were the first time power up. This may not fix your particular problem, but when the processor that runs all of the electronic features of the camera gets confused, this is the best way to clear its confusion.

Shutter Problem

I had an Olympus C-3000 this same type of sympton happened to me. I sent it off to Olympus to be fixed (via local camera dealer). When it came back, after about 10 shots, it failed again the same way. Back to Olympus a second time. Came back and failed again after about 10 shots. This time dealer worked with Olympus and I was given a new reburbished camera (same model). This whole thing took about 4 months. Time frame was a couple of years ago.
