You need to plug an Ethernet cable from your router (see LAN1 or LAN2 ports) to the network card of your PC and check that your PC is using also DHCP, see here:

If your modem is not one of the hybrid modem/router that has dhcp built in then what you need is a router instead of a switch. Think of a switch as a 2way phone adapter which just splits the signal and allows you to plug more phones or in this case PC's in. The problem is, your modem will only accept and bind to one mac address (PC). Get a router, plug the modem into the wan port of the router, now the modem binds to the router, you plug your pc's into the ethernet ports, if you need additonal ports you could plug in your switch to one of the ethernet ports but these days most folks have wireless on their laptops or desktops. When you purchase a router get one that has G or N standard, then you can broadcast your internet and enjoy it without all the wires.
you need to reinstall driver of your wireless card. since other laptop can connect to the router. make sure also that the WEP/WPA key is correct, if theres any.
If you purchased a Linksys wireless roter then you shoul not need the switch anymore-
Try going directly from your time warner modem into the Interner/WAN port on the router and then plug your desktop computer and the vontage phone system into 2 of the ports on the router. After everything is hooked up you will probably need to power cycle for it all to work correctly.
Please power cycle in this order:
Reboot modem - then Router- then Vontage phone system.
you could try getting a wifi adapter and creating an access point, you can connect that way if your ps3 has wifi I have a laptop with windows XP Pro and have been trying that my desktop PC with Vista Home can see it. MY Components: -Desktop PC with Vista Home (Main PC, connected to Internet with Ethernet to a Linksys Wireless Router B and G). -Get internet thru cable TV (broadband),from this cable modem plugs to router and from router to PC Vista(desktop) -Linksys Wireless G/B Router -G-Card for my Laptop Windows XP Pro and -Playstation 3 capable of sharing info and use printer
At the moment all of them have internet w different IP's (000.000.0.001, 000.000.0.002,etc.). What I want to achieve is that I can use the Printer that is connected via USB to my PC Vista (desktop) and share files. Right now the only thing been able to do is that my PC Vista see my Laptop but Can't find my PC on my laptop. Anybody, Help? -When I turn On my media sharing in my PS3, my internet on Laptop loses it while PS3 search and find, then, because laptop lost wireless, the PS3 looses the laptop and I get wireless back. I knowis a stupid setting but tired of workin back n forth. Thanks
If your router has a password, it needs to be typed into the other laptop, also the router may not be giving out enough IP addresses, so go into the router configuration (usually on the computer that can connect to the internet by typing 192.162.1.1, or 2.1 or something similar usually ending in .1 , into the address bar (where the www. goes) in internet explorer. Explore those settings a little, be sure to disable anything you see requiring security or and kind of filtering (wether it be IP mac address, etc)
Also, make sure that your laptop can connect with the router in the first place. If it can't then there could be an issue with the laptop, like you could have a wireless N router, and your laptop may only have a wireless A card (which wouldn't usually work).
I hope this helps somewhat.
Stay spicy and happy lappying :)
You will need to purchase a PCMIA Wireless card , it jsut slots into the expansion slots on the side of the laptop , they look like a flat card slot, also the you will need to purchase a Wireless Router / Access point (AP) then plug you router into this , this will send out a wireless signal which you can then configure to pick up on the laptop.
heres a link to a guide i wrote , it will help you in setting up a wireless connection and also a guide on what to purchase.
i would suggest returning the router and/or purchase a modem router, as it does away with all the connection problems and the need to click dial to connect as a modem router is always on and does not require a main pc to be on.
It will also probably be cheaper than buying a seperate modem.
