There is a class action lawsuit against whirlpoof for their "flame lock" water heaters. (in several states). All their support web pages are blank and their phone support operators are in India (and seem to be named Biff or Muffy or some such rubbish..they think it makes them more acceptible than Ajay or Ravi) Either way..the solution is simple...just do what I am doing..(mine is 8 months old)
1. shut off the gas
2. disconnect the water fittings
3. drain the tank
4. Use a hand truck to remove the tank
5. put it on the trash
6. buy something else..ANYTHING else..than a whirlpool water heater.

Pilot light will not stay lit. Have been lighting this unit for several years with no problem. Could it be thermocoupler? Thanks

The thermocouple does not affect the lighting of the pilot, but it does affect the pilot flame staying lit, once you release the gas control valve, before turning it to the ON position. If you could furnish more information about your heater (Brand & Model Number), I can supply you with more information on how to solve the problem.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Pilot wont stay lit on waterheater. I replaced Thermocouple and that did not fix it. It will stay lit on vacation setting.

Most gas water heater problems can be fixed with yearly service that cleans burner and burner parts, checks gas pressure and bleeds air out of gas line, cleans air intake, and checks for venting and air intake problems.

Pilot light will not stay lit on my gas hot water heater

either a bad thermocouple, or the unit is bad. you don't mention a make or model so I can't look up the gas valve and parts for you, But if you reply to this, I will do a search for you

Pilot won't stay lit in Reliance 606 gas water heater

The Reliance 606 has an enclosed thermal couple. Before you try taking that assembly apart take a wire brush to the bottom opening directly under the burner. There is a metal filter on the very bottom of the water heater. It could be that the filter has gotten filled with dust or animal hair. It took a serviceman 2 days to figure this out for me. The water heater has to have good airflow through that filter to work well.

Waterheater pilot will not stay lit would like to know if the gas jet fails?

If there is no air in the gas line, then at pilot lighting you should smell gas, if not then yes your valve failed. But if it's not igniting, then your lucky and all you have to do is replace the ignitor. you should be able to stick a match in there unless it's enclosed. Be carefull!
