There is a line going down my paper when I print a paper

If the line is on pages you print out, but not on faxes that you send, the most likely solution is to replace the drum and toner unit. If the line is also on pages that you send, try cleaning the scanner glass -- there might be dirt, Wite-Out, or other debris on it.

I use my fax daily to receive faxes. I have one client who faxes me and it takes hours for it to print and either errors or prints a blank page. Right now I am waiting for a fax to print out that was...

Your client probably has a phone line problem causing errors.

The first test is to send a FAX to that person. Does it proceed normally?

They may share the line with a telephone or other device. IF they have DSL they MAY have forgotten to put a DSL filter in line for the FAX.

If they send the FAX from a computer there may be MANY other reasons the computer hangs up.

Unwanted verticle line on fax copies

Most likely a fax has been sent or a page copied with 'white out' (Liquid Paper), still wet on the page. As the page feeds over the scanner, (a narrow strip of glass that runs across the width of the page along the feed path) the wet liquid paper comes off on the glass as a thin line and dries. Thereafter, when copying, scanning or sending a fax, the scanner light does not go through the liquid paper streak and the result when printed is a thin vertical line that runs the full length of the page. If this is the cause you will also find that faxes you send to other people will also have this line (although faxes you receive are not affected by this problem with your machine).

To fix the problem: follow the path that the paper travels when sending a fax or making a copy, until you find the scanner (narrow glass strip). Take a clean, soft cloth and a small amount of methylated spirit (or white spirit) and remove the now dried Liquid Paper from the glass. Clean the whole strip ensuring that the glass is left clean and dry.

I get lines and can't read the right side of copies that I make with the 1270e. How do I fix this?

You have not specified why you can't read the right side of copies and I am assuming that the reason is because the 'lines' are covering the text. I can offer a solution to the lines issue.

Most likely a fax has been sent or a page copied with 'white out' (Liquid Paper), still wet on the page. Cant receive faxes

First make sure your line cable is plugged into the correct place. Most Brother machines have a plug for Line and a plug for Extension (EXT), make sure it's plugged into "Line".

Go into the menu on your Brother machine and select Fax, then Setup Receive and then select Easy Receive. This will usually solve most recieve problems.
Brother machines come with s default of 4 rings before they will answer, make sure none of your other devices (such as an answering machine) are set to a lower number of rings or the fax machine will never grab the line.

If you have distinctive ring, make sure you have it set up in the machine. There is a section in the owners manual for setting up discinctive ring.

If the machine grabs the line and goes through the motions but nothing comes out on the page (no black print) then make sure you are using a Brother ink cartridge (not refilled or generic) and print out the test page using the "ink" button. Allow the machine to clean a few times and see if the test page prints out correctly. If you are using refills or a generic black, you might have premanently damaged the print head. In this case take it to a service centre to have the head tested.

Sending a fax

Its the phone line causing the problem. Check the line via the handset, if you hear static sounds you have a bad line. Contact your phone provider and have it checked/fixed.

Also check the feeding of your original by using the copy function. It is possible that you have a feeding issue but I would bet on it being the line.

Can't receive fax but can send

Call your cell phone from the fax machine and check the caller ID to make sure that it is the correct number for your fax machine. Next, call the fax machine from you cell phone, and make sure the fax machine rings. Problems like these are almost always a phone line issue, not the machine.

Don't forget to rate your solutions please.
