Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

When power supply to TV exceeds 224V the TV switch off. It then tries to switch "on" again and will do so until the power supply to TV is lower than 224V. I ran a AC DC regulater to keep power output to TV as close to 220V. Then TV plays perfect. Aventually I unplug TV and go to bed. I have tried UPS's as well. Same problem. I think power supply unit in TV is damaged due to power surges. I replaced this 2 year old TV with a new one. Costly excercise. I still belive this TV can be fixed. The technician tried but unable to find the fault!!!! I live in South Africa and Hitachi parts is not so freely availible. If I new that I would never have purchase this TV. Where can I purchase a new power supply that is lacated in the TV unit itself. This might solve the problem??? Thanks

If a power supply is what you want, they are available all over the world, just use the internet like you did tonight and use Google, type in your tv make and model and power supply and you will find them. Parts are really hard to come by now the Quake in Japan has shut down many suppliers. I am in America and we can;t get these here, but you should be able to find them online where you loive.Or simply contact Hitachi for the replacement. The reason the set is shutting down is just as you described it, it senses an over current and shuts down before burning up. The place you bought the set might be your best place to look, or the technician who looked at it should be able to get these parts.

Sharp tv works for a while then cuts of wont comes on again until I takes out the plug starts it back again

Most likely the power supply board needs to be replaced. The parts heat up and fail. After you let it sit for a while they cool off and start working again. This has probably been getting worse over months.

If you don't know what you're doing, DON'T OPEN THE TV UP TO FIX IT, THERE ARE HAZARDOUS VOLTAGES ON THE POWER SUPPLY BOARD, EVEN WEEKS AFTER THE TV IS UNPLUGGED!

If you don't know how to do it yourself, find some local Electronic repair shops, get quotes, try to find reviews on the shops.

Panasonic Plasma TV periodically will not turn on.

The power supply section of the tv may be faulty. Open your gadget and check if there are no popped up capacitors. When a capacitor at the power supply section is afftected by a surge, normally it pops up and resultantly affects the switching of the tv ....so check its voltage rating and capacitance and replace with the same value taking note of the polarity of the capacitor

When I hit the power button on my 32" Vizio Plasma

Hello,

You have a TV with a failing power supply board. There are parts in the power supply called capacitors that start failing and this causes the power supply to not be able to properly filter the voltages. When you keep turning it on and off the capacitors will finally hold a charge correctly so the voltages will stabilize and the TV turns on ok until the next time you turn it off. As time goes by the capacitors will degrade more until the TV will not work any more. If you can solder then you should be able to repair the TV yourself. We have a page on our web site http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/capacitors/
That explains what capacitors are and how to determine the bad ones that have failed. If you replace the failed capacitors in the power supply then you should have a working TV again.

VCR plays 15 seconds, TV shuts off. Same without tape inserted

Sounds like a typical Switched Mode Power Supply fault, or an internal thermal fault that is shutting down the power supply, over & over. Really you need to get it serviced. You need to get a firm "Quote" for repair, remember these days repair can often exceed replacement cost.

Vizio L42, wont turn on

Usually when this happens, the TV is in Protection Mode. When the TV detects something has gone wrong inside, the TV will prevent itself from turning ON.
Try leaving the TV unplugged for 30 -45 minutes so the TV can discharge and reset itself. If this doesn't fix the problem, most likely it's a power supply board related issue. At that point, you may want to get a price quote from a local TV repair shop. The cost of fixing the TV may exceed the price of a brand new TV.

Toshiba cf32c50 tv will not turn on

This is a typical condition if the power supply has failed or a power-consuming circuit the supply services has exceeded a predetermined current draw. The relay you hear is preventing further damage or even fire.
You will need local tech help with this.
