EMachines T3516. Upgraded memory from 512 with 2 x 1 gig sticks. When powering up, 1 long continuous beep with no boot up. reinstalled old memory stick of 512 and only fans will come on, no power anywhere else. Fans come on instantly when connecting power cord. power switch will not work. Computer was working fine before upgrade of memory. Note: Old and New memory sticks are same type pc3200, 184 pin, but don't line up when held side by side. Have to return new sticks.

You ahve to return the new sticks. you prob got a ddr2 instead of a ddr stick. also you may have disconnect the power cable from the front of the power button to your motherboard look for a hanging wire comming from the front of the case it will be a twisted wire with a black ending let me know if you see that

Returning memory sticks today. Found out there is a kit of 2 - 1 gig sticks. Single sticks so I've been told will not work in sequence.
Found problem with power. On switch was stuck in the on position, took off face panel and repaired. Still no luck with turning comp on. Fan still runs continuously. have to disconnect power cord to shut both fans off. Also went through the power reset procedure and removed the battery, still no luck.

My Old PC automatically looses power and is the system is down......

Any are all of the above, not to mention the possibility of a power supply issue. I would start with reinstalling windows, and see if the problem persists. Windows XP runs much better with more memory about 2 gig. If the reinstall does not clear the issue, check your power supply, it may need replacing.

Here are the specifications of the Gateway 838GM: You will have to replace the existing memory with thesesettings only: The machine comes with: 512 MB = 256 MB (removable) + 256 MB PC3200DDR SDRAM DIMMs. Supports Dual Channel DDR Nowyou can only upgrade to 4.0 Gig total. I would recommend going to this link and order the correct memory foryour computer I use them quite a bit. http://www.memorystock.com/memory/Gateway838GM.html Rob

Almost always indicative of a RAM memory problem. Troubleshoot by removing 1 stick of memory and rebooting. Switch sticks to determine if either stick of memory is bad or a bad bank on the motherboard.

Problems with Foxconn 6100K8MA-RS Motherboard memory upgrade

This is an oldtime POST code memory error. Likely that ram is either installed wrong, bad RAM or the mobo doesn't like one of the memory sticks.

See http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm.

You must count the beeps.

Upgraded Dell Dimension 3100 memory to 2 Gigs - Windows XP fails

Did you add the two sticks with the 512 or remove the 512 and add the two 1gb sticks? Try booting the machine with ONLY the 1gb sticks in.

Your machine supports 1gb modules but they can't be higher than 533MHz. Check that the memory you purchased was either PC3200 (400MHz) or PC4200 (533MHz) and is 1.8v. If you post the part number off of one of the modules I can look it up for you.
