SOURCE: atari 2600 fuzzy screen

Hello, Are you using a newer flat panel or and older TV? IF you are using a newer TV the picture will never look very good. IF not, did you try working with the RF adapter? Check all connections. If all else fails try to get another RF adapter to see if that helps. I remember this being a bit problematic even when these were new. Wish I had a definite answer for you! Good Luck - Dr. Know

Flip reset switch, then retry b/w/color selector (or switch from ch. 3 to 4).

SOURCE: Just hooked an atari 2600 jr. up to a lcd

Had the same problem with an atari 2600 jr I just purchased. The reset and select buttons are imprinted on a plastic film and it has probably deteriorated.. I repaired the traces in mine with aluminum tape, but It would not be dificult for someone with a soldering iron to replace them with real buttons purchased from radio shack. (It's only 3 wires)

SOURCE: Atari 2600 Console Power Adapter

The Atari 2600 adapter has the following information on it:

Input: 120V AC 60Hz 12W

Output: 9V DC 500mA

Positive tip

Make sure you test the power supply before you use it. I have 2 original atari power supplies, and they are both putting out about 15V DC, which may be why my atari's aren't working anymore!

SOURCE: Atari 2600 does not have picture when turned on.

The signal is output at 56MHz or 60MHz depending on the channel you use. Normal tv is around 350MHz to 700MHz so you need to got to the bottom range to tune. Also check that the contacts of the game catridge are not black looking, if so clean with some alchol to remove the soot build up, this will make sure the screen is outputted in proper format.

Well i think that the rf switch might be causing the problem snowy tv scrren no colour or fuzzy tv screen then its the rf switch thats causing this type of a problem then. If using a digital tv you need to plug it into a VCR or a DVD player for it to work then.

I purchased an atari 2600 junior on ebay recently. It turns on fine, the cartridges have been cleaned (by myself). I have a female rca to male coax adapter to attack the rca cable to. I then attach that to...

Try switching to a different channel. The Atari 2600 supports channels 2 and 3, you want to pick the one that is not broadcasting in your area. If your TV has "auto-tuning" you may need to manually add channel 2 or 3 (whichever you pick) to see it on the TV.

Atari 2600 Jr doesn't turn on

Sounds like the power supply\power converter has finally given up the ghost. It will likely cost you more than it's worth to fix it. You'll have to fix it yourself most likely. I would look for burned-out or popped capacitors to start off with. They are likely culprits in even computer systems when the power goes out. With something as old as an Atari 2600 it could be just about anything.

My 2600 works fine but after 5 mins or so there is a static noise which starts through the tv speakers and the longer I play the louder it gets until I can't hear the game any more. Why?

Try a different channel on your TV. If your using 3 then go to 4 or vice versa.

If that doesn't work then try a different RF Tuner cause those are known to go bad over time. You can also try those Coaxial adapters that allow you to play your Atari on your Cable-Ready TV using the cable connection on the back of the TV.

Finally if either of those don't solve the issue, try playing different games and see if the problem happens after playing 1 games or all games. If its all games then that means there is a problem with the mainboard inside of your Atari.

Atari 2600 does not have picture when turned on.

I just got a Atari 2600 as well and can't get it to produce a picture. The transducer and the chips are getting warm when I turn it on, so I know it is getting power. I have tried to clean everything with rubbing alcohol but nothing has worked so far. I have also tried about 7 different games all do nothing.

Is there some part or component that commonly goes on these systems? I have a friend who also bought a 2600 and he is having the same problem.

Atari 2600 does not display a picture when turned on

In this situation what I would do would be to replace the cable that runs from the Atari to the TV. Also, if you are using a variable power supply, make sure that the power supply is set on the propper settings and the polarity is in the correct setting.

Atari 2600 Jr. Video Issue

You can't run a 2600 on composite. Even though the connector looks the same it isn't. You need a RF modulator to seperate the signals and you need an old school one that has a manual switch on it. Check at Radio Shack they carry things like that.

Modulators with AV jacks like I use for watching my DVD on when I only have a coax on my television won't work becuase the atari line doesn't separate the signal outside the box by audio and video. That wasn't something being done 30 years ago. In fact it wasn't being done until NES came out.

If Radio Shack doesn't carry it you can probably find one on E-Bay.

You can always find classic Atari 2600 games for your PC. I know I play the Activision Games that way from time to time.

Good luck on that.
