Hi,
Welcome to Fixya. You can figure out if the usb host controller 2.0 is installed by connecting a usb device on your computer and it will detect it. Usually you just need to install the chipset driver for it. If you have other usb device check if the computer can detect it. Please provide the information below.
- Can you hear the drive spinning?
- If not, is it buzzing or beeping as if trying to spin up?
- Did you drop the enclosure?
- Did you overvolt it with the wrong AC adapter?
If you are using Windows, can you see the enclosure with Microsoft's UVCView utility?

I believe it should be detected as a mass storage device.
Please provide me the result so that i can interpret it to you.
If you have questions please let me know. Thanks for using Fixya
If it does not show, either your MYBOOK had viruses or the files there are corrupted. Do not attempt to delete any files coz maybe it is part of its system.
If there is a viruses, normally it will not connect to your pc. But try to open the MY COMPUTER AND use the address bar coz sometimes your MYBOOK drive appear there. If you successfully open the external HDD, run the antivirus software to your HD.
If system file is corrupted in the HD, try to get the installer for MYBOOK and install it to your computer. But did you try to connect your MYBOOK to other computer? If not, do it because maybe your PC had problems and not the MYBOOK?

Go to COMPUTER right click go to MANAGE click on it. Go to the left and down to DISK MANAGEMENT. This might help you. Also you could try going to western digitals website and downloading the driver.

Do what when I go down to Disk Management?
I have a WD MyBook & a Vista Windows OS. I've only used the MyBook a few times but all I ahd to do was plug in the USB cord and it would show up in My Computer. Now it doesn't. I've tried deleting the INFCACHE.1 file. I've tried using a shorter USB cord. I've tried looking up the USBSTOR.inf file but it doesn't seem to exist in my pc. I've tried unplugging the USB cord from the MyBook for a good hour. Nothing has worked. Solutions?
The last expert told me to go to Disk Management, but did not tell me what to do when I get there.
Somehow this got listed under a different product. I am trying to get advice regarding the MyBook Essential Edition. http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-Bo...
I think it has something to do with this:
Q: Why is the drive not recognized under My Computer or on the computer desktop?
A: If your system has a USB 2.0 PCI adapter card, be sure that its drivers are installed before connecting your
WD USB 2.0 external storage product. The drive is not recognized correctly unless USB 2.0 root hub and
host controller drivers are installed. Contact the adapter card manufacturer for installation procedures.
I found the info above in the troubleshooting manual for the MyBook. How do I find out if my "USB 2.0 root hub and host controller drivers are installed"?
I just tried Uninstalling & reinstalling with no luck.
Found this in MyBook Manual:
