There are heat sensors on the light housing that get old and need replaced. they are 2 white rectangular sensors, mounted to the light assembly. These may be the cause. Is your fan running in the back? If not then this will be the issue. I am going to see what more I have to give you for help in my notes on this issue.

The Sony projection Tv's use an optical block to provide the picture. This included the lamp and LCD's for color and fans for cooling. They have had more issues with this design and heat related problems than I care to mention. They have extended the warranty on this for many sets, which might be in your best interest to contact them and see if yours is warrantied or not. There is a small centrifugal "lamp cooling fan" mounted to the top-left of the optical block (as you face the TV). This fan draws unfiltered air from inside the TV and blows it directly across the face of the lamp from top to bottom through perforations in the lamp housing. As the air comes out the bottom, it is directed out the back by another larger fan near the back of the TV. Interestingly, the air input to the fan is not far from the path of the outgoing air heated by the lamp, which could affect cooling efficiency.

In addition, there is a somewhat larger centrifugal "optical block cooling fan" mounted inside the optical block on the bottom-right (as you face the TV). This fan draws air from the void behind the projection screen through a crude filter and blows it up through multiple small ports beneath various parts in the light path--the main condenser lens/fly's eye array near the beginning and the polarizers and LCD panels for each of the three color paths. The heated air presumably exits through the top of the optical block and out the sides of the open angled cover. There is an extra port above the condenser lens/fly's eye array that directs air from these parts into the area of the angled cover. Any problem in these areas cause the set to overheat.

I suggest that first thing in the morning call the sony repair shop near you and find out if the warranty on you set is still good for the optical block replacement. I am hearing they extended the warranty but it is ending soon.

Here is some additional info on the Sony optical block issue that we are having.

The good news was that they have extened the warranty on most sets due to this. So if your bulb is good I would suspect the block.

Depending on the way that you want to do this, you can use a short coax to connect to the antenna input and the sat box. You can use component cables to connect from the sat to the set. If you do that you need 3 cables for video and two for sound. You can use svideo also and maybe digital audio.

You have a weak capacitors in the power supply. Your description has enabled me to say this is the solution. We TV techs call this "breathing". You may control some of this with raising the contrast and brightness to see the picture stabilize. You will need a TV tech to correct the power supply. I have not worked on projection TVs for some time. This is a classic problem with a classic fix. Thanks for asking and show all hands of support!

I have a Sony projection TV KP-53HS10. From one

It is most likely the convergence board. Rear projection TVs use three lights to display the image. The image is aligned via the convergence circuit. After many many hours of use the capacitors and resistors on the board lose their tolerances. It is very expensive to repair if you take into account the price for a new TV and the quality of the image you will be getting if you do have it repaired.

I have a sony 53 model number kp-53hs10...I have

Hello!
Rainbow patter is caused by failing convergence IC's. Both of them have to be replaced and 6 PICO fuses (looks like resistors yellow in color, soldered into PCB) have to be checked and any open fuses have to be replaced. After replacement convergence have to be adjusted again and stored in memory.
It is impossible to upgrade resolution of your TV set.
Regards.

Have SONY 53" Projection TV(KP53HS10) that gives five flashing lights and now the screen blanks out (picture flashes on/off while audio remains on).

Whenever i get these types of problems especially in sony sets,i first clean all the video related boards,i use fast evaporation paint tinner,to get the flux and grime off, then resolder all or most of the flat pack ic`s (be carefull,if you cant do this, then dont) use a magnifying viser to check each ic for bridges and solder splashes, wash boards again with tinners after resoldering. This works for me 99% of the times. If you need the schematic for this set request it at computec40@hotmail.com

HI,
No this is not a fuse problem, Audio is OK but video is not present. This shows that problem may occurred in various section like Horizontal section Video procession section But one thing is important that this is due to miner components like Resistance or Capacitor. So,you need not to much worry about it.Just contact any expert nearby.
Thanks
