It means that something on the main board went out call escort or return it if its new. and underwarrenty otherwise you will have to buy a new one. sorry for the bad news.

if you leave it in your car in the sun it can overheat and say service required it justs happen to mine a couple days ago and i let it cool down and it worked try that

Service Required means that your 8500 has repeatedly failed while attempting to calibrate its radar antenna. This can be fixed by Escort for free if your RD still is in warranty. There is a service fee if your RD is out of warranty, but at least Escort will fully test everything in addition to repairing your 8500, and they will upgrade your 8500's firmware to whatever their latest and greatest firmware is which may help to improve sensitivity, reduce false alerts, or to detect newer laser gun models.

This means that your RD has failed several attempts to self-calibrate its internal antenna. Like the message says, you must send in your V995 for service. Bel will fix whatever the issue is, and they will install the latest firmware too. Also, be sure to ask Bel to check and see if they need to replace the existing speaker with their new "high temp" speaker. The new speaker resolves potential issues of the original speaker failing due to high heat conditions.

I also have one of these but I have never sen it ask for a service, I guess your question is??? How do you service it? Or where do you service it? How do I remove the service light? Why is it asking for a service? You need to provide more information including what steps you have already tried so we don't repeat what you have already done. Brian: Thereare a number of things that may cause this ERROR message. Please besure that you are getting consistent voltage (does the lighter socketstay ON all the time? Does it do the same thing in other vehicles?). If the display reads "Service Required" not caused by the above, itmeans it has failed it's self-calibration and requires service. Pleasecall our Customer Service Department at 800-341-2288 and they will giveyou a repair authorization number and instructions on how to return itto us so we can take a look at your detector.

Brian: It's possible, over a long time in the heat to develop.

I called the number and they were helpful, told me to use a packing service like UPS and such. Insure it. And it would take about 5-7 days for them to work on it, another 3-4 days of shipping time.
Considering the reviews on the rx65 and the prices for detectors out there, and considering that they will also apply any software updates (bought mine in '06) the $60 repair fee is worth it for me.
