The issue is due to bad caps not holding the charge enough. Open the LCD and look for bad caps and replace as necessary. The fix should not exceed 20 bucks in parts. Make sure you allocate at least 1.5 hrs and a large clean table to open your lcd.

Sony bravia picture to large for screen

Sir press the screen mode button in your remote below input select button, press the screen mode button repeatedly to select smart, 4:3, wide, zoom, or 14:9.
  • Smart- Display conventional 4:3 broadcast with an imitation wide screen effect. The 4:3 picture is stretched to fill the screen.
  • 4:3- Display conventional 4:3 broadcast non-wide screen TV in the correct proportions.
  • Wide- Display wide screen 16:9 broadcast in the correct proportions.
  • Zoom- Display cinemascopic letter box format broadcasts in the correct proportions.
  • 14:9- Display 14:9 broadcasts in the correct proportions. As a result, black border areas are visible on the screen.

Screen went black with power button blinking instead of being solid...what gives? Its almost like it went to sleep mode but when i move my mouse nothing happens.

cklein95, I should guess that the unit's "switch-mode-power-supply" is in full or partial shutdown mode. Check all cable connections. Then read a few of my longer responses to BLACK SCREEN lcd owners to find out all the options you have when faced with a LCD monitor that has failed prematurely. If unit not covered by warranty, you will need to decide if you are going to trade-up for wide-screen or contract out for repair or you will go on DIY repair quest. Follow the links to other sites listed in profile so that you will understand the no.1 cause of BLACK SCREEN. Do you know the lcd flashlight test? Do you know how to unsolder and solder parts on a printed circuit board. Do you know how those new energy efficient curlie-Q CFL light bulbs work? Hope this gets you started. 12fixlouie

After the damage the LCD panel had developed an internal liquid crystal leak.
The only way to fix the monitor is by replacing the LCD display panel, this is an expensive part and must be ordered from Dell.
