Try reinstalling your windows. If you get an error on install the problem is probably in your hard drive, in which case you'll have to replace your hard drive and reinstall your windows. I really don't think it's a hard drive issue though. Sounds more like a registry issue but the easiest fix is to reinstall windows. Good Luck.

MY SCREEN IS BLANK AND THE HARD DRIVE WONT SHUT OFF

You may not be getting video and the fans running wide open if the Motherboard is bad, removing the battery will reset, the CMOS, which keeps time when turned off for one thing, If your video is intergrated into the MB, you are using system memory to display video, If so try removing the sticks (RAM) 1 at a time and see if that works, if your memory needs to run in pairs(DDR-DDR-2) forget trying one at a time, If you have a seperate video card, the card maybe bad. finally it may be your Powersupply, not supplying the correct voltage, but enough for fanspin. Last thing, you may have a bad CPU(Processor) or MB(Motherboard)

If you buy new PCI video card there is alway CD software attached on this, you should claim for this because it was the driver for your new video card ,without it your PC will have an abrormal operation .Are you sure it was your video card?you can consider also your memory card,Wiht out hardisk,CD room, floopy your computer will run it can open your monitor configuring the cmos and bios.Try on this one disconnect hardisk,cd room, floopy then detouched your memory card clean using pencil eraser the sloted terminal of your memory card, also your video card try to clean terminal by pencil eraser. Then put back memory and video card again if the monitor work.If ok put back again the cdroom, hardisk, and floopy. If not ok Isolate checking the memory and video card also the processor.

Low Virtual Memory problem

For some reason your CPU is not using your RAM for memory. It is going to the .pagesys file, which is a file on your hard drive that holds Virtual Memory. Virtual memory is only used when you run out of RAM. So here are your choices.
You are going to need to buy a copy of Windows XP or whatever operating system you want. Then you try two things: First Format your current hard drive to wipe it clean and reload Windows XP. That should clear up your problem if it is a software issue. If that does not work then it is a bad hard drive (but I don't think it is).
If it is a hardware issue, your hard drive is corrupt, then you will need to install a new hard drive and then partition, format and load WIndows XP. Either one of those options will get you running again.

Are you trying to install the software for a all-in-one printer? If you are, you have to Uninstall any previous versions first or it won't let you install the drivers.Good Luck.

On powering on'the screen remains black and the ethernet plug is flickering. no sound from the hard drive

the hard drive could have failed..Try a hard start to see if it will react. Do you get any beeps?? a warning beep or beeps may indicate a hard drive failure. Try to get into C-Mode set up. click alt/cntrl/del as you turn on the set.or alt/cntrl F10. Hard drive failures can happen if ther is to much written to the drive or just a plain 'Crash'.

Bad Hard Drive?

By download a hard drive diagnostic program you can check if the hard drive is good or not.
Here is one from seagate, Seatools:
http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/seatools

Basically, you create a bootable cd or flopppy with the program and then boot to that media. The program will tell you if the hard drive is still good.
Good luck!
