Pretty simple fix. Your ice maker is it's own boss. It calls for water to be added after each harvest cycle. It and it alone. You have 4 things that could be wrong. Bad ice maker, bad water valve, bad water filter, and dirty condenser coils. The ice maker has a thermostat in it that calls for harvest. When that thermostat closes it powers up the motor and heater. Since the heater requires the most shocktricity to operate the motor will barely move. However as the ice melts the motor will gain ground until the main drive wheel rotates past a certain point and the heater is disengaged from the circuit, then the motor travels on around and dumps the ice. Near the very end of the harvest cycle a lever is tripped that powers the water valve for 7.5 seconds and fills the mold. Logically you want to replace the cheapest component of the 2 (ice maker and water valve) first just to see if that fixes it. You need a new watervalve anyway if you install a new ice maker. If installing a water valve don't do it (after you have cleaned the coils and know the water filter is ok and you have paid the water bill) then you would replace the ice maker itself. If the ice mold is full of ice and won't harvest you have a bad ice maker. Good rule of thumb: If you can add some water to an empty ice mold and it kicks out a batch then you need a new water valve. One other thing I forgot to mention is the water valve can drip like a faucet and this dripping forms ice which clogs the fill tube. If the fill tube is clogged replace the water valve, open the fill tube with a hair dryer and party on.

Whirlpool side by side with water and icemaker. My water works perfectly fine but my ice maker no longer produces ice. It runs but it's not getting any water to make ice. What can be done to fix this?

There are a couple reasons your icemaker will not fill with water.
First thing you want to check for is a frozen fill tube to the icemaker. The easiest way to check for a frozen line is to remove the icemaker. Once the icemaker is removed look for ice in the fill tube. If there is ice in the tube the (water valve) will need to be replaced. You can melt the ice by forcing hot water up the fill tube.
Another reason could be the icemaker is not sending voltage to the water valve. The fix for this issue is to replace the icemaker. Hope this helps you with your whirlpool fridge!

The reason to change the water valve with a frozen water line is because the solenoid is not closing all the way. This allows water to enter the fill tube of the icemaker and freeze based on the temperature.

Hello,
Make sure the arm on the icemaker is in the down position,if it is up and locked in place the icemaker is off. If it is down and the icemaker is turned on,each time it got cold enough the to cycle the icemaker(usually about a hour) the icemaker started and for 7 years power was sent to the water inlet valve to fill the icemaker and the icemaker side of the water valve is burnt up. The water valve has 1 inlet teh house water supply attaches to and 2 outlets 1 for icemaker and 1 for door dispenser

Water would not stop running into icemaker, now

The water inlet valve(where the water supply connects to the back) may have been staying open and now has burned so it don't work at all. . You can swap the wires on the dual water inlet valve and disconnect the water line at the valve which goes to the ice maker. When you try the water dispenser the water will come out there. When you stop the water dispenser, if the water at the valve doesn't stop, the valve isn't closing so you'll need to replace it.

Icemaker continues to run water for several minutes

Change your icemaker module. It is getting stuck in the fill position. They are about 50 dollars or so and are held on with 3 screws normally.

Ice tray dont empty and water keeps running out

Something caught inside the water valve (replace water valve ) such as dirt , sand . Or , the icemaker died in the fill position . Disconnect the icemaker plug inside the freezer , and see if water still runs from the icemaker fill tube . Also make sure the icemaker fill cup on the icemaker , is not clogged with ice .

Oviously you need water first. You'll have to check that the fill valve is opening and that the water is making it to the icemaker. Make sure the fill tube that feeds the water from the back of the frige to the icemaker is not frozen. Be aware, just because you get water at the dispenser doesn't mean the valve to the icemaker is ok. If you are getting water, you need to check that the icemaker is not jammed, sometimes ice can fall back into the icemaker, or get caught in the ejector. You may need to remove the icemaker and run the mold under hot water to melt the ice. If it was jammed, you'll need to check that the fill level is correct to prevent it from happening again, both too much water and too little water can cause problems. There is a heater that helps loosen the ice from the mold, because of that there is a thermal fuse to prevent it from over heating. It will be molded into the wiring harness supplying power to the icemaker. If you have continuity through the fuse it's ok. If you don't the heater shorted and you will need both a new icemaker and that wiring harness.
