Replace sensor it gets a groove worn in it

there is supposed to be an air gap between the sensor and the rotor so if it is wearing out then the gap is not there. This will also be a problem for the running
If it is just one plug that is fowling (oil or fuel) the go to a spares shop and get a hotter plug to burn off the fowling
Plugs come in heat ranges from cold to hot and are used specifically when problems occur.
also replace that HT lead as they break down in the centre and don't fire properly

I have a J D ride on with a Briggs 287707 type 1274-EI which has done 616hrs. It runs fine but is chewing oil and has been doing so for some time. The plug fowls slightly but I clean it and all is wel

You got me on the CHEWING OIL never heard that condition..but if you mean using oil and getting to the spark plug.. Most likely your piston walls and piston rings are wearing..and letting oil past into thefiring chamber..try using an oil additive that helps restore the inside surfaces of the cylinder and Pistons..I use a product called RESTORE sold at most auto parts stores..works for me..just make sure to use the prescribed amount for your tractors oil capacity..as for the oil checking..there should be variance especially cold and not used..Better check for a gas smell in your oil and pull your plugs before starting..and check for presence of fresh gas.not jus a smell but wet gas...you may have a bad carburetor check valve at the bottom of the carb.allowing gas to,leak back into the cylinder and/or engine block when not running.....no gas in the oil or cylinders..not a problem..if there is..need a gas shut off valve on you line or if already have one MAKe sure it is CLOSED every time THE ENGINE IS NOT RUNNING.....note..if there is gas in the oil CHANGE IT AND THE FILTER...GOOD LUCK..

How to change the oil on my lawn tractor, model 917288561

Your model number sounds like a sears craftsmen model and it is equipped with a push and twist drain plug it is black with a yellow cap near the bottom of the engine just above the frame always start ther draining the oil out then remove the filter if applicable and replace. Then fill with oil to the full mark start engine run for about 20 seconds then shut off and recheck oil and fill as needed

Mower will run then starts running bad turn the choke off and it stalls stalls after i choke it also blows gas out of the top of the carburator how do i adjust the vaalvesType your problem for a solut

Using the choke as you did, mentioned in your problem, you have flooded the carburetor. DO NOT USE THE CHOKE,ONCE THE TRACTOR IS RUNNING. Choke is used to start the motor only. When you run with the choke on,the motor gets to much gas and the plug(s) get fowled up and gas comes out of the carburetor. Remember the motor is hot, when gas comes out of the carburetor, the amount of over flow (flooding),could cause a FIRE. Lay off the choke, clean the spark plug(s),they will most likely be fowled up. The filter will be soaked with gas, remove the filter, soak up the gas, using a handy wipe, let filter dry out. Once dry replace filter. You should be good to go. Remember,do not over choke, use when starting a cold motor, usually when motor is hot from running, you may not have to use the choke at all. Hope this helps. Sincerely,Brad Locke

I have a Sear's Craftsman 21.5 hp lawn tractor and it is backfiring constantly and blowing black smoke. fuel is good and just changed and cleaned everything. Any help is appreciated.

Have you changed the spark plug and engine oil? The oil can become fuel contaminated and cause your symptoms. If this solves your problem you need to fit an inline fuel tap to stop it happening again. Regards Phil

My engine has loss power I have changed all filters and oil clean spark plug and have checked muffler. Still same problem What do I check next. Its a sear 17.5 hp lawn tractor

If it has a two cylinder B&S engine I would trying running it alone one one cylinder and then the other. This can be done simply by pulling off one plug wire starting the engine and then do the same with the other plug wire pulled. It is not rare to get bent valve push rods on these engines and a bent valve push rod will kill its cylinder causing lack of power. If it runs with one wire off, but not the other then you are on to the problem.

Plugs filed out bike runs ruff. keeps filing out everytime i put new ones in

plugs fowl out for two main reason either they get flooded with fuel because of choke problems or oil caused by worn rings or bad valves. should have this looked at by a shop.

How to repair oil leak in spark plug hole

Do you have oil puddling in the plug hole or do you have oil blowing out a spark plug hole?
Is the plug fowled? maybe caused by running to rich, wrong plug, or a timing problem.
