Unfortunately with most of the printers any work required when their faulty (parts + labour) will become more expensive than the printer itself. Depending on the printer and your skills you may want to find a replacement part on Ebay and replace it yourself.

I painted light gray that now looks lavender on the wall...I am pretty sure it is the lighting in the room (CFL bulbs) as when I take the roller into another room with natural light or fluorescent lighting...

I painted for many years. And now work with photoshop each day.
The selected grey was probably in the blue family instead of yellow family. Most interior colors look better if they come from the warm yellow family, including greys.
There are greys for every color in the spectrum ... from yellow to red to blue. If you pick a grey with bit of red, it will start to look mauve. Orange and it will look brown. Blues inside the grey will turn purple real quick.
Moreover, all colors and finishes are contextual and pick up surrounding colors. Especially satin-or-shiny finishes, because they pick up local colors that change intended hue. For example blue drapes will turn white room bluish. If the house next door is red, and the light comes in window, it will turn white room into pink. Green leaves, and the light from window turn white room green. So when you pick a grey that has bit of blue, the color can change for many reasons beside light bulb. Each room is totally different.
Most folks pick colors by looking at color chip in the store, instead of painting a section of wall inside home. And most folks do not ask the paint store clerk which tints are in that particular color. Sometimes the black tint will turn some bases into a bluish hue.
Go back to paint store and get another grey color from the yellow spectrum.

Connecting lighting correctly

Don't know what you're working with.

AC household electricity?

Common (White) wire goes to all three lights. Goes to silver colored screw.
Hot (Black) wire goes to switch, then all three lights.

ALWAYS put the switch in the hot wire. Not the Common.
Reason?
Let's say you are changing a light bulb.
Your feet are on the floor. You are then considered to be Grounded.

You have the light switch off. You go to remove the light bulb, slip, and a finger goes in the socket.
Result?
You get shocked.

Hot (Black) wire has the switch. This time of you slip, and a finger goes in the light bulb socket; you won't be shocked.
The power is turned off at the switch.

Common wire comes from source. (Service Panel/'Breaker Box'), and goes to the lights.
Hot (Black) wire comes from source, and goes to light switch.
Then to the first light, second light, and third light.

Is there a 3-way switch involved?
Walk in one end of the room, turn the light on, walk to the other end of the room, and turn it off?

Post back in a Comment as to the exact query.

I have a red, a white, and a black coming from the ceiling. coming from the fan i have a black, white and black and white striped. is it white to white, black to black, and red to striped?

Yes that will work just fine. black and red are hot lines from your switches. if you prefer a certain switch to do the light vs. fan then you must verify what color is coming from the wanted switch.

Right now, my laptop screen is black. I can hit Fn

I'd guess that it's the CCFL (backlight bulb) going bad. What points me in this direction is that you mention that the backlight (when you're able to get it to turn on) isn't producing bright white light (and pink is one of the colors that normal fluorescent tubes produce when they're failing). You're in luck because CCFL backlighting isn't the most difficult thing in the world to replace (if you can handle delicate electronics) and you may just be able to hack together some LED backlighting for yourself while you're at it. There are a few reasons that LED backlighting is better than CCFL but the most important is that LEDs last pretty much forever.

There are a number of video tutorials on YouTube about replacing the backlight of an LCD display and a few of them detail the installation of bright-white LEDs in place of CCFL backlights. If soldering and math aren't your strong suits a drop-in replacement for the CCFL tubes should be fairly easy to find online...

Light bulbs burn out

Use bulbs specifically designed for ceiling fans - they say "ceiling fan" on the package (Home Depot, Lowes both carry). The slightest regular vibration (like a fan rotating) causes normal incandescent elements to burn out within days or weeks.

If you wired black to black, white to white and green or bare to ground, you wired it right. Sometimes there are two blacks (hots) one for the light and one for the fan, but most of the time you hook the light wiring parallel to the fan wiring unless you install a remote switch.

Toshiba 65hx81 65" Rear Projection tv. black & white color/green

Yep, your problem is a relatively easy one to repair if you know how to solder. You better repair it before it blows the fuse though. There are two capacitors in the main power supply that are coming loose and need to be re soldered. There is a Toshiba service bulletin about it. They are marked C809 and C810 on the main power supply board. Good Luck
