Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have lost red color on tv. hooked up to xbox 360 for over 2 years with no problen playing games and movies. The picture is perfect except for recent color problem. This happened gradually and corrected with remote picture adjustment for one month. I think this is fixable but repairmen respond in gibberish/latin say it's expensive to fix or want to sell me a new one.

Thank you. I only wanted conformation (second opinion) for repair/replace cost. I try to repair everything instead of junking, something about a "greening". This was a good/inexpensive way to get my answer. Thanks again.

Hi, well whenever this happens unfortunately it is a rather serious issue. Also the fact that it was gradual, also adds to the issue, as whenever it happens this way, the "Support" components are also stressed to the point of near failure also, (Resulting in extra Componentry that must be replaced that otherwise, may not, have had, to have been) this doesn't usually happen with a catastrophic failure, IE: One that instantly stops the set. usually the damage is contained.
With the FP sets there are No "Guns" that can be separately replaced, no, instead one must replace the entire display, if that's where the fault lays, and the entire color board if not, and on occasion BOTH.
Neither of these components are cheap, and there is also a likely hood of "Other" co-lateral damage due to the slow demise.
There is no realistic way to DIY a modern day set. and most often it is just a waste of time and money, and no guarantee of a result.
It is my professional recommendation that you take the set to an authorised service agent, contact a local or head office of the sets manufacturer, and ask for a referral. Now when at the repair shop always first ask for a "Quote" before allowing any repair work to be undertaken.
This way at least you will be able to make an informed decision as to repair or replace.

You see many of my customers these days prefer to put any monies that would have been spent on expensive repairs, towards a New set with a warranty.
However IF you do wish to DIY, then First you must obtain a service manual, for your make & model. and go from there, the manual will guide one as to exactly what to do.

How should I hook up my xbox to the back of the television using the red, white, and yellow wires? It is hooked up but I am not getting any audio. Thank you.

First make sure your video cable is set to TV not HDTV

Then plug the 3 RCA cables into the color coded slots on the TV. Make sure you aren't using the red cable from the component RGB but are using the red cable for sound (next to the white one).

Then, if you still have no picture, start the console using the controllers Xbox button and hold "Y" and "RT" until the console restarts. this will reset the video settings on the 360 to default.

Follow this guide if you get confused:

and for the video reset about halfway down the page:

Sound doesn't work while playing a game or movie from Xbox 360. It used to work - then it just stopped while a movie was playing. now games and movies won't play sound. Cables are good, sound sytem is...

You can figure out real quick through isolution what the problem is and who to point the finger at. Go ahead and unplug your xbox 360 system and hook it up to another tv. It doesn't have to be hdmi, just a standard one can work fine so you can plug the yellow video, and two white/red audio cables in to test. If that works then you need to look at the ports on your tv or sound system as the source problem. Check the settings...it doesn't hurt to reset them and reconfigure. Also check the xbox system settings in the Dashboard and verify. That will get the ball rolling and get your solution asap. Good luck!!!

No color on tv when xbox on

Try hooking the xbox up to another tv to see if you get color. If you do it isn't your xbox. If you dont then it's your video cables going bad. Hook a dvd player into the same spot you had the 360 in on your LCD see if you get color. If you dont then its your TV, if you do then it's your xbox video cables going bad.
