Virus Preventing OS Boot-Up/Safe Mode Access

I'm pretty sure I have a Virus Preventing OS Boot-Up/Safe Mode Access. I have been able to start Spybot successfully through my CD Writer Drive, but unfortunately it has no capability to remove viruses just spyware. If I'm not quick selecting what I want to do with Spybot after it boots-up the computer will shut-down on me, which I think is one of the side-effects of the virus I have. I'm operating with Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 2. Thanks in advance for any support you can provide.

Take your hard drive out and place it in another computer as a slave and run a scan on your hard drive with the other computer.
If your hard drive is ide hard drive. I'm not sure about SATA drives.
If you could get it on a network with a working computer you could run a scan across the network.
I can do it for you if you are able to open your mail and go online and installl some software I recommend. This will enable me to remote control your computer.

My mom clicked on a virus scan on accident, and it kept telling her that she had 34 virus, but she already had antivirus software on her computer. the program wouldn't let her open task manager, antivirus...

The "virus scanner" that your mom clicked on might have been the virus to install more viruses.

too boot your computer, boot it in safe mode
https://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/boot_failsafe.mspx?mfr=true

The virus should not be able to lauch. From then use a virus scanner to scan the computer. I would recommend Malware-bytes.

When I power it on, the windows screen comes up as if to be starting but it never comes up it just keeps doing it over and over

Its looping. Basically, files needed to boot it into windows are missing or corrupt. Try the following in order:

On boot up, before windows loads, press F8 and boot intro safe mode. If this works, click on the hard drive icon and ask it to repair any faults (Right mouse click, Properties, tools, repair) and reboot. See if that works

If it does, as soon as possible, download a command line virus scanner such as DR WEB, store it on a usb drive or similar, reboot the computer using F8 and safe mode and run the virus scanner from the USB , just to check you have not got a virus.

If it fails to work, you have an issue that will require repairing the windows OS, for which you will need a windows CD. Boot from the CD ( a lOAD of guides on the internet on this) and at the point you get asked to install windows, let if find the existing windows installation and repair it.

Dell PC has major virus/malware infection or is just dying

You need to update your antivirus. Definitely your system has viruses that made your system to boot slow and preventing you from opening your folders. I recommend you to use updated full version antiviruses like avg 8 or avast. They automatically update. They surely remove viruses from your system and your computer be protected. If you cannot successfully download antiviruses from your PC, then use other computer if you want a hassle free from repairing or installing a fresh copy of OS or shall i say starting from scratch again.

Best regards

Computer crashed, won't go to windows

Hi,

When you start you computer, after the bios flash. press the F8 on your keyboard before the Windows start loading. You should have an option to select to go to safe mode.

Select the safe mode option only. See if it will load the Windows under the safe mode option. If it did load the Windows under safe mode. There is an issue loading the driver of your Windows O.S. that i why its not booting under the Normal mode. Sometimes this is cause also by a Virus on your computer. You can run the Anti-Virus program under Safe mode to check for viruses

To fix this you may need the Original Disc of Windows O.S.
You can reboot the computer. Load the disc make sure that under the Bios option the CD drive is the first boot. Then save it.
after rebooting. Follow the on screen instruction on how to repair the O.S. There should be an option to repair the O.S. when you boot the computer using the Windows O.S. Disc

Note:
If you could do a backup of your files, do it first before repairing the O.S.

If it will not resolve the issue, you will have to reformat your computer.
