Virus Preventing OS Boot-Up/Safe Mode Access

I'm pretty sure I have a Virus Preventing OS Boot-Up/Safe Mode Access. I have been able to start Spybot successfully through my CD Writer Drive, but unfortunately it has no capability to remove viruses just spyware. If I'm not quick selecting what I want to do with Spybot after it boots-up the computer will shut-down on me, which I think is one of the side-effects of the virus I have. I'm operating with Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 2. Thanks in advance for any support you can provide.

Take your hard drive out and place it in another computer as a slave and run a scan on your hard drive with the other computer.
If your hard drive is ide hard drive. I'm not sure about SATA drives.
If you could get it on a network with a working computer you could run a scan across the network.
I can do it for you if you are able to open your mail and go online and installl some software I recommend. This will enable me to remote control your computer.

Formating remove virus

first off you have a choice you can either run virus scan to attempt to remove it from with in safe mode

format the HDD assuming it isn't your primary OS drive

or reinstall the whole OS

we will start with safe mode

so whilst the pc is still in start up (POST) rapidly press f8
this will take you through to a start up menu choose safe mode at the top.

once booted up log in and run antivirus software such as bitdefender/avast/avg and others. I recommend avast (personal preference) if nothing Is found look for more in depth for a better anti virus program.

formatting will technically remove a virus from a HDD but if you format your OS your screwed and it is unlikely that a virus will install itself to your second drive so ignore this. (don't even attempt to format)

this is a last resort if you cant solve it.
borrow or create a live cd/dvd/usb OS boot the computer into this and then install the OS if you are using windows, use your recovery disk that no one makes and if you didn't make one contact your laptop/PC manufacturer as they should have one for a fee

My lap top tells me that i have 167 errors that it picked up.and i can not get into nothing on there wht can i do.i need to do my school work. i can not excess e-mail or nothing.

Sounds like a virus. You may be able to access a few things in safe mode (power up the computer at the Dell splash screen, tap the F8 key, choose safe mode). You might be able to scan the computer for a virus in this mode and clean it.

A better choice would be: Boot to safe mode, and try to back up your important documents (if you have not all ready). Now place the Dell OS disk in the DVD drive and reboot the computer. When it asks you to hit any key to boot from cd... do it. This will erase the computer (virus and all) and reinstall the OS (follow the prompts to reinstall the OS). Once the computer reboots you will need to run the driver disk to reinstall all you hardware. You will then need to run each software disk to install your software. Make sure you install anti-malware software (Norton, AVG, Panda, Avria just install one). You can now scan the device you backed up your important documents to (to make sure it is clean), and then copy them back to your laptop.

I find the above solution the best because, a virus is like termites in a house. You can kill the termites but the damage has been done to the structure. By reinstalling the computer, you kill the virus and fix the structure at the same time.

A softwar is automaiclly downloded my pc is name security tool and hijack my pc

I answer this with thoughts that you are on another PC and not the affected one.Try running in safe mode with network access.
Cold boot the PC. Not reset but power off power on.
Then during the initial boot process, keep tapping the f8 key continueously.
We want the screen..(below) If Windows starts normally without going to this screen, reboot & try again.
Enter the "Safe Mode with networking" option and let Windows load in "Safe Mode" Choose "yes" if asked to allow it.
This allows you to go on the internet in while in safe mode.
c4403e5.jpg Download Spyware software, like Spybot.
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
You can create a Bootable Spybot CD to use on systems that wont start in Windows because of Malware infections.
Here...http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=14
If these dont help you then you can remove the hard drive from your computer and put it in another computer as a "Slave" drive, scan the drive for infections on it, get it clean & re-install it back in your PC .
If you go that route ,make sure that computer has a good Virus software spyware/adware remover before you install it or you may infect that.

My laptop is a dell latitude d600 it starts up but will not go past the windows xp loading bit then goes back to the start again

Could be a number of issues here.
Can you boot it into safe mode (F8)?
If you can get into safe mode without it rebooting, check to see if any newly installed drivers are causing the problem. (I'm assuming you have not changed the processor etc).
Download and install memtest, this will check to see if you have Ram that is failing.

If you are unable to access safe mode, then try booting from CD using a Linux based boot OS (Ubuntu or Magix), That may give you some idea as to whether it is a hardware fault or a corrupted windows files. (possibly a virus)?

If you have a spare hard drive, try installing that and installing a fresh copy of your OS, again, if this works without issue, then the problem may lie with the original hard drive.

When I power on the LAPTOP with power cord, I am unable to run any of PC applications including simple application such as google talk service or windows mediaplayer. The Laptop becomes dead.

it seems you have a virus. Run your anti-virus and anti spyware
if still dont find anything wrong, go to start, run, Msconfig, then go to start up, disable anything recently added or all, then go to services, click hide microsoft services.. then disable all.. then go to the Boot.ini and click safe boot/with network restart your computer in safemode.. see if the applications run... They do then restart comp and get out of safe mode ..
Start all you known services..(anti-virus, anti0spyware) and see which one is actually preventing it.

if that also fails you might need to reinstall your os by formatting your drive.
In order to backup your important data, you`ll need do the following.

Take out your hard drive and install it as a slave drive in another computer (possibly a friends if you don`t have access to another system), then backup your data and replace the drive into your system. Reformat and reinstall from scratch.

Hope this information helps you
Thank you

HP Desktop PC, won't boot even under safe mode

if the system was able to enter the desktop and restarts...once possible cause is a virus...scan the pc via safemode or reinstall windows.

but if it didn't enter the OS desktop...cause might be the boot loader or MBR is damage..

worth a try:

Run the Recovery Console from the Windows XP startup disks or the Windows XP CD-ROM, follow these steps:
1. Insert the Windows XP startup disk into the floppy disk drive, or insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then restart the computer.

Click to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD-ROM drive if you are prompted.
2. When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
3. If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you must access from the Recovery Console.
4. When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.
5. At the command prompt, type this commands one at a time.

FIXMBR C:
FIXBOOT C:
COPY [CDDRIVE]:\I386\NTLDR C:\
COPY [CDDRIVE]:\I386\NTDETECT.COM C:\
BOOTCFG /rebuild

6. To exit the Recovery Console and restart the computer, type exit at the command prompt, and then press ENTER.

Computer crashed, won't go to windows

Hi,

When you start you computer, after the bios flash. press the F8 on your keyboard before the Windows start loading. You should have an option to select to go to safe mode.

Select the safe mode option only. See if it will load the Windows under the safe mode option. If it did load the Windows under safe mode. There is an issue loading the driver of your Windows O.S. that i why its not booting under the Normal mode. Sometimes this is cause also by a Virus on your computer. You can run the Anti-Virus program under Safe mode to check for viruses

To fix this you may need the Original Disc of Windows O.S.
You can reboot the computer. Load the disc make sure that under the Bios option the CD drive is the first boot. Then save it.
after rebooting. Follow the on screen instruction on how to repair the O.S. There should be an option to repair the O.S. when you boot the computer using the Windows O.S. Disc

Note:
If you could do a backup of your files, do it first before repairing the O.S.

If it will not resolve the issue, you will have to reformat your computer.
