I have a Bose GS III with DVd. When I play a DVD the sound comes on but the picture reamins with the TV program.

You may need to change the video input on the tv, depending on how you have everything hooked up. What input is the Bose system video out, hooked up to on the TV?

Cant figure out to hook up keeps saying no signal with hdmi cable to tv and blu ray put in

What kind of TV are you hooking the dvd player up to ? You may have to go into the TVs menu and set the input to the proper resolution or input style to see a picture. The dvd outputs a 1080i and if the TV is set to 720p it may not show a picture, the dvd output can also be changed to match the TV.

This tv is supposed to have closed captioning i cant get it on? it worked before i tried to set it up on set up but it doesnt highlight

To use Picture in picture you must have 2 different video sources hooked up and active.  One could be a built in tuner (if it has one), a vcr, a dvd player, possible a computer, a video camera, or some other sevice.  There might be an exeption out there I have not seen, but normaly you have to have at least one other device sending a signal, two if you do not have an internal tuner.  Your TV will switch between these two sourses for it's small and large picture in picture images.
an example with an internal tuner.
picture one is the live baseball game you've tuned in on channel 45 (example only) and the other is the DVD of "Titanic" your wife is insisting on watching during the play-offs....
an example without a built in tuner would be to have the cable box or tivo playing your baseball game on one input, your computer on the other (or a DVD of titanic, or what ever)

Hope this helps

I have picture and sound when I watch a dvd/video but not through cable.

Try turning off the dvd/vcr and put your tv on the output channel of your DirectTv receiver. If this doesn't work it may not be hooked up correctly.
