Your probably not getting any gas to your engine.. may have a bad fuel pump. one way to test the fuel pump. is to spray some starting fluid down the throttle body and see if it tries to start.. if it does then you most likely have a bad fuel pump..

87 harley fxlr w/racing cam.It starts and idles 20-30 sec. Then dies.It will not restart unless I turn the key off and on. I trouble shot all the fuel issues.Could it be a sensor shutting it down?

Hi Jeff, and the usual suspects are:
1. Severely discharged or damaged battery.
2. Loose, corroded or broken battery cable, especially the "NEGATIVE" cable where it bolts to the frame.
3. Alternator not charging or below normal rates.
4. Failed ignition coil, ignition/electronic module.
5. Failed CKP, CPS, CMP, MAP, TPS, or BAS sensor.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Water or dirt in fuel system, carburetor or filter.
8. Fuel tank vent system plugged or gas cap not venting.
9. Fuel tank empty.
10. Fuel valve, vacuum line broken or carburetor vent line closed off.
11. Restricted, blocked or kinked fuel line.
12. A failed fuel pump, pressure regulator and or fuel injectors.

S10 fuel injectors

Try a strong solution of Sta-bil that is a brand name sludge and varnish remover, Mix a strong mix up in the tank. Crank engine and see if it will start. If not, crank several times for about 10 seconds. Let sit overnight and try again. It seems as though your injectors are plugged. So try this. It is an awesome product.

have you put injector cleaner inside the gasoline which cleans the fuel injectors because if you use 87 octane would make the fuel injectors dirty and not allow the fuel to go into piston chambers properly so try this first. Yes the fuel pumps does mechanically go bad and plus the fuel filter goes bad because the lower octane 87 has elements that will cling to the fuel filter and clog it up so no more fuel can go to the engine so you can test them out but make sure that when you do this that you do not cause any spark by the gasoline lines when taken it out. If you do this to make sure FIRST that the Negative battery cable is off the battery terminal which is also connected to the fuel pump so the pump does not come on on accidently while your working. You can check the fuel pump too but make sure the Negative battery cable is off the battery cable before you mess with the fuel pump but also make sure when you try to take off the fuel pump and the hoses that you do not make any type of electrical spark around the fumes if you do this job !!

try putting some injector cleaner into the gasoline tank because sometimes your fuel injectors do get clogged up and needs to be cleaned to allow the lower 87 octane through the injectors. Some of the times that the timing belt has been changed and misses with the timing with the piston heads and valves which opens and shuts while the gasoline fuel is being put into the piston heads chambers so if your timing is off would cause this similar problem as well.

I changed the fuel pump and fuel filter, im getting gas upto the injectors/carb, but only starts if i put gas in the carb, but then dies quickly wont get gas. any ideas?

If the tps (throttle position sensor) gives a high signal it will put the computer in clear flood mode which shuts off the fuel injector. Easy test, unplug the tps and try to start it. The tps is the 3 wire sensor at the end of the throttle plate If not suspect the ignition module under the distributor cap.

Check fuel filter, gummed up carb. (I think that car still had a carb, if injectors, same issue, injectors could be all gummed up from old gas.)

What can happen, is fuel system can deliver or allow enough fuel to accumulate to start up the car, but it can't sustain the fuel delivery to keep the engine running.
