Try to initialise (format) it in your computer. Use an external card reader. I think you should use FAT 16 or FAT 32. But once the Roland sees the card, do an initialise there.
It could be the Roland can;t work with memory cards above 2 Gbyte, for that try to make a 1 Gbyte partition in your computer and again try if it works.
I'm having the same problem! I contacted support and the guy swears its the CDs im using, he says they're **** (memorex, sony, etc etc). he recommended "Micro Boards" brand.
He also said that if that doesn't fix the problem, it might be a fragmented disk which will need to be re-formatted or replaced.
I have 3 2480s and I use them professionally so I think I can help you. Looks as if you need to install the OS for the system. It seems as if it lost. You should have the OS on CD and if not contact RolandUS and get one. You would put in the OS into your CD burner and power up the unit. I would recommend Roland HD support be on the other end if you are brand new. They will walk you through. I was one of the first to buy the 2480 when it came out and the manual is just insane to learn.
