Question about SonicWALL Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Wife is patient in local hospice. Has her own laptop and been given permission to acccess local wifi. Local service identified as Sonicwall. When we enter the password key (given to us by hospice staff) the laptop tries to connect and then goes back to the original screen. We are using a Medion Laptop normally connected to BT Yahoo at home. Any suggestions? (Hospice expert on long vaction just now and replacement clueless.)

The inability of a client running Windows Vista to connect with a SonicPoint or any SonicWALL firewall (UTM) appliance running SonicOS Standard firmware is caused by a lack of a correct association on the SonicWALL between the computer running Windows Vista and its assigned IP address. Follow these steps to work around the issue by editing the System Registry:

WARNING: Exercise extreme caution when modifying the System Registry. Incorrect modifications could lead to an inability to boot your system. It may become necessary to completely reinstall your operating system.

  1. Click the Start button.
  2. Select All Programs > Accessories.
  3. Right click Command Prompt and click Run as administrator.
  4. Type regedit.exe and press enter.
  5. Go to the following location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters
  6. Right click this entry and select New Dword.
  7. Rename the new entry ArpRetryCount (leave it set to 0 by default).
  8. Restart the computer.
  9. Reassociate with the SonicWALL. You should notice a successful connection.
Please print this out if possible, you may want to take your computer to a local repair shop to make this change if your not comfortable.

The diagnostic policy service is not running hard to enter internet

I found a way to fix this issue after failing with every other attempt. Permissions were incorrect for registry entry: HKLM\System\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\WDI\Config In the advanced permission view I added Full control for: Local Service, NT Service\DPS, and NT Service\MpsSvc Hope this helps someone somewhere. I found it with process monitor and filtering for svchost.exe while launching the DPS service.

See microsoft's web page where I got this solution. Windows 7 64 bits Diagnostic Policy Service does not start Error 5 Access...

Wifi router for emachines D525 on Desktop

Hi there Ledile, Very descriptive error report you have given us there.

If the laptop is saying there is an internet connection and you can visit a website on it then there is no problem.
If there is no connection then look on the outside of the case for a little switch that will turn the wifi on and see if that helps.
Of course if the laptop has never been connected to your local router via wifi then you will have to input the router's wifi key..

I hope this helps you.
If you could be more descriptive with your problem I could help you better..

There is a local wfi fi with no password,it does not show up in airport, how does one go about connecting to to this wifi?if entered in ,,join network,, airport,it cannot find it?

Hi,

One cannot connect with wi fi with no password near the Airports or other places of high security. You need permission from the Owner of wi fi of that area. After getting permission to access the wi fi, you will be given a pass word.

Hope this will clear your doubt.

Thanks...

Greetings, trying to figure out why my toshiba 5205-S504 cannot access local wifi. Some sort of internal wifi device installed and was working until I reverted back to factory conditions and dummy me...

I down loaded a free utility to identify unknown devices to determine the driver needed for the pci wifi card installed.
I then tried again with FixYa and we didn't get beyond able to recognize the network, but unable to connect.
I then went to look for a wifi connecting utility software, loaded it and bam--fixed.

I have a sonicwall pro 2040 and while the firewall rules look correct, I cannot get traffic from the WLAN to the LAN, nor from the WLAN to the WAN.

SonicWALL Wireless Configuration Wizard To access SonicWALL’s Wireless Configuration Wizard, log on to the SonicWALL router, then click the Wireless button found within the left navigation bar of SonicWALL’s Web-based management interface. The Wireless Status page will be displayed. Click the Wireless Wizard button that appears toward the top-right of the screen.
The SonicWALL Wireless Configuration Wizard will appear. Click the Next button to proceed with the wireless administration utility.
The wizard’s first step will appear as seen in Figure A. Step one addresses wireless local area network (WLAN) network settings. You must specify the WLAN IP address and subnet mask before continuing. In addition, a checkbox is provided for enabling Windows networking support between the wired local area network and the WLAN. Be sure to check the box to enable communication between the LAN and WLAN. Then, click Next.

Step two requires setting the Service Set ID (SSID), radio mode, country code and channel. The SonicWALL wizard provides a blank field for specifying the SSID. The default SSID is sonicwall. Consider changing the SSID to a value that reveals nothing about the organization or office in which it is deployed. I typically deploy SSIDs as HomeNetwork and BusinessNetwork, as doing so provides potential hackers with less information about a network (particularly in more heavily populated areas such as apartments and office parks).
On most SonicWALL routers, including the popular TZ 170 wireless model, three radio modes are available: 2.4GHz 802.11 b, 2.4GHz 802.11g or 2.4GHz 802.11g and b Mixed mode. Using the provided drop-down menu, select the mode you wish to use within your organization.

The last item to configure within Step 2: WLAN 802.11b/g Settings is the channel. Channels one through 11 are available options. Or, AutoChannel is an alternative choice and, in fact, the default. Choosing AutoChannel allows the wireless network equipment to automatically negotiate the best channel settings. Once the channel is specified, clicking Next continues to the next step.
Step 3: WLAN Security Settings enables configuring one of three security modes for the
SonicWALL wireless router. The three security mode choices are:
  • WiFiSec VPN Security – The default selection, WiFiSec VPN Security creates an IPSec-powered VPN over which the wireless traffic travels.
  • WEP + Stealth Mode – Utilizes Wired Equivalent Protection (WEP) to secure wireless communications.
  • Connectivity – Implements wireless communications featuring no encryption or access controls.
When selecting WiFiSec VPN Security and clicking Next, the Step 4: WiFiSec – VPN Client User Authentication page appears. This step helps create a user name and password for a new user with VPN client access privileges. The WLAN WiFiSec security setting will enable the SoniCWALL Group VPN feature. If you wish to edit user privileges, you can log on to the SonicWALL router’s Web-based administrative interface and edit user permissions by clicking Users | Settings.
After a user name and password are supplied, click Next to proceed to the wizard’s fifth step. The Step 5: Wireless Guest Services screen allows you to enable guest wireless access while also specifying the guest account name, password and account and session lifetimes.
Once these values are supplied, click Next to view a Wireless Configuration Summary. Clicking Apply prompts the SonicWALL Configuration Wizard to apply the settings and configuration parameters you’ve entered into the wizard. When the wizard completes, a confirmation page should then appear (with a Finish button being the only available option).

Vista Home Premium 64 bit. Iam getting error 80070005 stating it cannot search for windows updates and it encountered an unknown error. I am not a techie, just a grandma who uses the computer alot.

This error can occur for many reasons but generally assocated with IIS connection to a database. Seeing how your are a grandam and more than likely not connecting to anything and that your machine will not connect to windows update. I suspect you have a trogen, rootkit or some other malware. See if you can update your virus software and run a scan it may or may not detect anything. The worst case is that you will need to use your backup disks and re-install windows. You may need to get some onsite help with this. Your machine not being able to connect to either virsus update or windows update is always a dead give away that you have some form of malware infecting your PC.

Not able to see HP C6180 on SonicWall TZ 180

Not sure if you've done this already or not, but I would suggest installing the printer manually as a local printer, and create a TCP/IP port that points at the IP of the Printer. Rudimentary way to go, but should help.
