Our top mount refridgerator is leaking water into the fridge. The water pours out of a thingy at the back of the fridge that seems to be connected to the defroster. My husband watched it pour out of the back. This seems to happen once a day, in the morning.

It happens whenever the fridge goes on defrost. The problem is that the drain hole in the freezer is clogged. so whenever its in defrost, there is no where for the water to go so it flows into refrigerated compartment. you have to remove everything from freezer and remove the back panel. the drain hole is right below the evaporator. use a screw driver to break up the ice, you can use a coat hanger in the drain hole to clear the clog. pouring boiling hot water in the drain hole will help. listen for the water running into the drain pan, once you hear the water running down, you know its safe to put the freezer back together.

Why is it leaking water onto top shelf

Most modern fridges have an automatic defrost that works by draining into a sort of funnel above the back of the top shelf.
The funnel is connected through the back of the fridge to a rubber drain tube that goes down the outside of the back to a heated evaporation tray under the fridge,
The hose and/or funnel can get clogged with disgusting yucky stuff, and the water spills over the top of the funnel onto the top shelf.
The fix is to clean all the bits. It's usually no big deal to take apart.
I have resorted to blowing through the tube from the bottom end and then cleaning up the mess, and brushing my teeth. Quite revolting but, that's the price I paid to become an expert.

Leaking inside refridgerator

Most likely the defrost drain is filled with gunk. You'll find the drain behind the back wall inside the freezer. It will be located under the evaporator coils. Make sure there is no ice in the tray under the coils,if there is then clear this away with some hot water and locate the drain hole. This hole is for the water that runs off while fridge is in defrost. Pour hot water into this hole and work a stiff wire(clothes hanger) up and down inside this hole until water drains. This should fix your problem.

There is water in the refridgerator

You have a disconnected defrost drain pan. You will need inspect the ceiling of your refrigerator compartment and find the drain hose going from your freezer to your fridge then the drain pan. Sometimes this is molded into the plastic at the back of your fridge and it simply leaking out the joint. Start by defrosting your freezer, then pour water in the freezer itself while checking the ceiling of the fridge for water traces. Keep a wet/dry shop vac handy or a mop to keep up with the excess drainage. Then reattach the hose to the little drain nozzle when you find it.

Kitchen Aid KTRC22EK leak inside refridgerator

It sounds like the drain for the defrost water is pluged. You can remove the back panel inside the freezer(ice maker will have to coe out first) and access the drain in the rear center of the freezer. Check the drain. It can be defrsted with a hair dryer(shut off the referigerator first) good luck, snugglepants

LG model GR-620RW leaking water inside at back top

Same issue with water leaking. Fan slowed and allowed ice to block drain..., defrost caused ice dam under heat shield. (behind freezer fan shroud at bottom, below condenser) Ice dam lifted heat shield until it dislodged the condenser, which slid down and melted the plastic liner when the defrost came on. QC! Fixable..., but could have been avoided by mounting the condenser so it couldn't shift or drop in transit.
New fan and heat shield needed now..., and more groceries!

Freezer in nice and cold but refridgerator is not

due to lots of moisture in the air or high humidity it creates extra frost in the freezing unit this creates blockage in the air flow once the ice crystals build up. the freezer is what keeps the fridge at the normal temperature if the air flow between the two are blocked in the ducting then the fridge temperature will rise the best way to solve this is to open the freezer take out the 4 screws in the back panel tilt the panel forward and blow it with a blow dryer till the ice chunk has melted its a good idea to use a towel and on the top self of the fridge to obsorb excess water this can be kinda messy. or you can unplug your fridge for about 6 or so hours. good luck hope i helped. :)

Whirlpool Top Mount Refridgerator is Leaking

the problem lies behind the freezer back wall panel, remove the panel, the ground (green) wire on the top left corner and the icemaker

all the ice build up under the evaperator will have to be removed, a good hair drier works well, direct the air at the center hole in the bottom of the metal panel all the ice out of the center hole will need to be melted out to be a success it will take a little time. you can pour some water down the hole and if you hear it going into the bottom drain pan then the tube is clear of ice.

Whirlpool refrigerator w/ top freeezer

It has a plugged defrost drain. You may need to defrost for 24 hours with unit unplugged and doors open. UNPLUG FIRST!! f still leaks, you need to remove floor of freezer, then the back wall of freezer. Remove ice. At center rear under coils is the drain hole that is plugged up. Use hair dryer to melt ice. Pour hot water in this area to uncover drain. With hot water in area, you can put a 1/4 diam. hose or copper pipe in drain and blow into it while pressing down. It will slowly go through ice, clearing drain.
