    Hi Rick,

The cycle gets about halfway between 2 and 3 having started the cycle on 2.

It just stops and a small hum can be heard. The heater seems to be working cause if I open the door at the point where the cycle stops its full of hot steam but will not progress further. If i manually move the dial forward it will go into the next part of the cycle ok but always gets stuck here. I have also noticed there is some water leaking from what seems to be the back left hand side of the unit.

Could this be activating the flood sensor and be the cause of the problem?

What should I look for ? I have a meter and can test out any of the components that you need info on.

  • tritech11 Mar 23, 2011

    Hi Rick
also I cant see a wiring diagram on the unit at all

  • tritech11 Mar 23, 2011

    Hi Rick,

My model SA 860X does not have any LEDS to view errors. It only has the timer dial and two black buttons; One is on off and the other is ECO cycle. the only LED light is the on off above the two black buttons

  • tritech11 Mar 23, 2011

hi Rick I have the unit out now and am trying to pinpoint exact spot where water is leaking from mite take 10 mins or so. Also as I said there are no LEDs on the unit at all only the on off led. Thanx

  • tritech11 Mar 23, 2011

Hi Rick def can't c the wiring diagram or any diagram. The unit wud b about 10 or 11 years old, purchased around 2000

  • tritech11 Mar 23, 2011

    Hi Rick,

Jus ran cycle again to try to find origin of leak but didn't leak this time. Also cycle stops midway between 1 and 2 I will try cycle 4 and 5 n c if it also stop midway

  • tritech11 Mar 23, 2011

Ok so if we cud narrow it down to the timer do u think it's worth trying to replace seeing as its 10 plus yrs old and I've got a good run out of it? Jus didn't want to bin it if it was somthing relatively minor and that when repaired cud give me a bit more use, have u got an approx cost on a timer for this model assuming I can even find one now? Im in australia

  • tritech11 Mar 23, 2011

I found the small leak coming from where the drain hose connects to a large white plastic moulded unit that has what looks to b a motor with a red fan blade attached. It's not the drain pipe itself but where this motor connects to is where the small dripping leak is coming from

  • tritech11 Mar 23, 2011

Cud u also post if u have it in front of u what the wash cycles r? It's 1 thru 5 on the dial. So far cycle 5 has almost completed in full

  • tritech11 Mar 23, 2011

Hi Rick ok that's good advice prob seems bit too hard to track the timer and putting another $100 or so into it prob not wise ESP when I have that leak to still fix, a replacement prob wiser choice thanx for all ur expert advice

  • tritech11 Mar 23, 2011

Hi Rick yes SA 860 x at worst the 6 cud b an 8 so SA 880 X

  • tritech11 Mar 23, 2011

    Hi Rick,

No that isnt my model. It doesnt have any lights at front other than the on off light and only 2 black buttons on the left hand side next t each other one is power one is eco wash. Then there is only the timer dial on the right hand side, theres nothing else on the front

  • tritech11 Mar 23, 2011

Hi Rick ok will try that. Thanks very much.

Cud I take a pic of the area that has the leak and send it to you?

  • tritech11 Mar 23, 2011

    ok will send it tonite

  • tritech11 Mar 23, 2011

  • tritech11 Mar 23, 2011

What is the dishwasher doing when it stops is it filling with water, emptying of water,or heater.... if it is happening sporadically it could be hard to diagnose could be a faulty timer, water inlet valve, pump, or heater . for example if the element is not coming on then the timer would not advance and would cause the unit to stop during the cycle. There is usually a wiring diagram on most appliances and they will often have a 'timing chart' for the timer/control. Look to see if you can determine exactly what it's suppose to be doing at that time, then check the various parts responsible for it to see why it isn't. Message me back with what the unit is doing and we can look further into this problem for you. If you also have any further questions message me back those as well I await your reply Thanks Rick

also are you seeing any error code at all? Thanks again Rick

  • Rick Ead
    Rick Ead Mar 23, 2011

im looking at your manual and if your getting error code 5 or 6 this would be due to either a water intake malfunction or water pump out malfunction these two codes make the unit stop in mid cycle there are 5 possible holes that contain lights which lights are flashing and which are on consistantly thanks Rick

    Rick Ead Mar 23, 2011

it is possible for it to activate the flood sensor having the leak but you were saying that it always stops in that one area which would say to me that it would be more of a timer issue as to why it stops timers are made to go one way there are small metal splines on the inside of the timers I still to this day catch my wife trying to turn the timer on our washer machine the oppisite way when she goes past the desired spot when the timer is actually turned the oppisite way it actually tears apart the inner metal splines on the inside of the timer also another question before i am 100 percent sure on your problem are there any leds flashing on the front panel or staying lit? if there were this would automatically tell what the issue is with your unit as i do have the code service manual handy in front of me atm and could tell what the error is registering as no matter what you will have to pull the whole unit out to find out where this leak is also coming from I await your reply Thanks Rick

ok forget the service manual from smeg then i think there is a delay from where you are to where i am in hawaii the chart would be a small piece of paper taped to either down the bottom or on the very top of the unit that sits under your counter page 36 in this general smeg dishwasher manual is where i was getting the error code situation from but it may be a bit outdated how old is your unit?heres the link to what i was refering to http://www.smegtech.com/site/smeg/pdf_li...

I will await your reply Thanks Rick

  • Rick Ead
    Rick Ead Mar 23, 2011

wow if it were that old then that service manual would supposedly pertain to your unit pull the unit out and if you have along enough drain hose and electircal connection breifly turn the unit on to see if you can find that leak

  • Rick Ead
    Rick Ead Mar 23, 2011

gotta be around 12 they changed the service manual 12 years ago supposedly but 10 years of use that is great todays units are made not as well and you are lucky if you can actually get 5 years out of one you buy brand new im leaning towards it is not the flow sensor and that it would be the timer especially after ten years of use but the leak situation needs to be found

  • Rick Ead
    Rick Ead Mar 23, 2011

yep looks like bad timer if it stopped between 3,4 and between 1,2 and it also does the same on all settings this would be a bad timer where it has one of those spaces i was talking about earlier with the splines on the inside of the timer

  • Rick Ead
    Rick Ead Mar 23, 2011

one sec going to try and locate your timer

  • Rick Ead
    Rick Ead Mar 23, 2011

ok this is going to be a hard part to find so to make this easier i would suggest to goto this link and go directly to the manufacturer http://www.smeguk.com/contacts.htm i have seen units that have lasted 25 years without a problem but unfortunatley when they do get the problem 25 years later they no longer make the parts thermodor does this within 5 years if your able to find the timer it should run between 75- 130 thats in dollars if you have any further questions message me back and please also remember when our chat has fully concluded to rank how this opinion has helped it allows me to help others in the future in similar situations I await your reply Thanks Rick

p.s you would be calling that customer relations number on that site

Dishwasher does not complete the cycle

Repair guy came out and after an hour of taking things to bits and not finding a leak , we managed to identify the problem as originating from a faulty door seal at the top door lock ( it was ever so slightly dented in/warped) which had caused the water to track through the door lock down into the machine and trip the electrics after 30 minutes in the cycle. He'd never heard of this happening before - just my luck!!
Door seal replaced and ( so far) everything working fine.

SA 660 SMEG dishwasher constantly filling....

this can be water draining from your sink into the dishwasher via the drain pipe, assuming the drain pipe goes to a spigot on the sink trap.
take the drain hose up as high as possible in a swan neck to prevent this.
