Could be the heating element. its a glass heater, tends t go bad, examine it for white spots or burn marks. you can also disconnect the wires and check for continuity using a multimeter. If there is no continuity, then you know the heater is bad. I would start from there. keep me posted so i can assist you further if you need it.

Model GX5FHTXVB03 - Bottom Freezer - ice buildup in the bottom that leaks on to the floor - Ice maker is NOT connected (no water supply to the refrigerator)

Our Amana/Whirpool fridge is 5 years old and this just happened for the 2nd time. As previous posters explained, the defrost drain tube is likely frozen. Remove all food from the fridge and freezer and unplug it for a day. This will thaw it out. Take the opportunity to clean it inside and out (wipe the interior, vacuum the condenser coils underneath). It may leak on the floor if the drip pan overflows after it thaws, so keep a towel or rag handy. I got this advice from a nice lady at the Whirlpool service number, so this is a common problem. She saved me a service call :-)

After a day, plug it back in and reload it. It should work OK. Not necessary to check circuit boards, pump air into the tube, etc unless it still doesn't work It helps to have a 2nd refrigerator handy, in my case a Maytag/JennAir that doesn't have this problem. Note that newer Maytags are Whirlpools also. I will not buy another one of these.

Why do freezer coils ice up on my Stainless Steel Whirlpool refrigerator (model GB2SHDXTS)?

On your model your cntrl board has a relay that can stick causing the compressor to always run even when the unit is turned off or in defrost. turn the fridge off, move the temp of the freezer to it's warmest setting and it should display a line in the freezer and fridge temp display. listen to hear if the compressor is running in back of the unit. if it is you need part number: 12868513

We have a Maytag Peforma Model PBB2255GES Maytag Refrigerator. It has a bottom freezer drawer. We have water pooling under the right front leg of the freezer.

The drain in the freezer behind back lower panel
needs opening. You can see it at the bottom of the back panel
underneath the evaporator coils. (The cold coils)
Run Hot water in the drain until it clears or use a hairdryer.
When the defrost melts the water it goes down the drain
If the drain is clogged with Ice or ? The defrost water
overflows into the ref. or freezer or on floor
Run Hot water in the drain until it clears or use a hairdryer.
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath

We have MAYTAG model #RSW24 , for last month we are having continuous water dipping from freezer bottom basket place. After checking everthing looks normal, yet water leakage didnt stop .Your advice is...

I had the same problem. The fix was to remove the freezer baskets and defrost the trough behind the back panel wall at the bottom of the freezer section with a hair dryer. This trough takes melted ice created by the auto defrost cycle out the freezer section through a small rubber tube drain into a pan located underneath the refrigerator. My first effort was not successful but the second time I did it it worked. In addition to defrosting with the hairdryer the second time, I also blew out the rubber drain line with a small air compressor. This solved the problem and I have not had a freeze up for the past 6 months.

Freezer cold- Fridge not. Ice build up on freezer

I really believe your adaptive defrost located inside the fresh food compartment and inside the control panel is defective. It puts your refrigerator on a timely defrost and if defective this problem you listed in your post happens. Yes we may need to also check the defrost heater and defrost thermostat but with my experience with that type of Adaptive Defrost Control is famous for its failure.
ADAPTIVE DEFROST CONTROL Part Number 61005988 You can find it located on two of my websites. Some models like yours came with a Defrost Timer. We will need just look inside the control panel and see for sure. Here is a photo of the Adaptive defrost. If you should need to contact me please send an email or try to answer here. Problem is I don't get notifications when someone comments.
Please rate and ask me as much as you like. Thank You, Sea Breeze
