Question about Black & Decker Coffee Makers & Espresso Machines

Open Question

I cannot turn the grinder wheel that sets the coarsness of the coffee. I have unlocked and locked the grinder a couple of times, with no luck. So it's stuck on the coarsest level possible, and can't really make drip coffee with it! Please help, I just got last week and was really enjoying it.

SOURCE: Coffee grinder

Mine had a piece of the top/bean lid broken off and lodged in the groove preventing the lid from going down far enough to release the safety switch which is on the right (as you look at the front) in the bottom of the groove. Note that there is another safety switch in the body of the grinder above where the ground coffee comes out that must be working as well.

Actually, I've never had any problems with my grinder. Got it for a very low price at Costco about 2 years ago. The switch has never failed to function and I've often slid the switch over to the left to stop the grinding before the designated time (I was in a hurry for my coffee) , but this hasn't seemed to negatively effect the function of the switch. It just keeps working.

SOURCE: Stone in the grinder

On my Braun mill, I unscrew the single phillips screwon the receptacle end of the bottom. The other end is held by a plastic tab so I have to push the bottom plate slightly backward. When the bottom lplate comnes out a little, it has to be slid on the power cord to get it out of the way. Thlis did not ge the machinery out of the housing, but it allowed me to tap out nearly a cup of caked coffee. Hope this helps

I can no longer turn the adjustment wheel - it's stuck at Coarse. Also, when it grinds it expels coffee bits in all directions. Can it be fixed?

Same thing here. We ended up taking it apart. Took a bit of time and a few tools, but basically the oils from coffee 'gum up' the parts. I couldn't get it to turn to FINE, as dial was stuck. I had two handy guys that did it for me. A pair of pliers and a screwdriver were involved. There was some really hardened chunks of coffee that had caused it. Works like new now!

My machine is getting the waste coffee stuck to the screen inside where it brews, it doesnt make pucks any more they are loose

Hi
Turn the + / - knob in the bean hopper to the + and then back 1 mark. Are the grounds coarse or fine? They should be like coarse sugar through your fingers. If they are very coarse that can be part of the problem. What is your setting on the big knob. It should be around 8 depending on your bean. Only turn the big knob down when the grinder is grinding. You can turn it up any time.

How to calibrate my Bunn grinder.

It would be easier to pick up the manual in the commercial section under products from bunn.com, rather than me explaining it.
You have to loosen the nut on the adjustment wheel, then pull out slightly and turn towards coarse a few numbers, then push back in and turn grinder on and slowly turn toward fine, until the burrs slightly touch, you will hear a little metal on metal, at that point turn the grinder off, back off about slightly, then pull out adjuster and turn it to Turkish and tighten screw.

Cleaned the Solis Maestro grinder and re set it to a fine espresso setting but the grind is coming out very course. What should i do?

Hi Your burr is not locked in. You need to remove the beans from the hopper. Remove the hopper. Remove the burr. Turn the grinder upside down over the trash can. Put the burr back in only make sure that the burr is down. Install the bean hopper and when you turn the bean hopper it should move the burr. Then you can adjust your grind. Make sure that the grinder is running is your going to a finer grind or you could break the grinder. You can turn it to a coarse grind any time.

The V-Spresso burr grinder gums up using flavored coffee beans. How can I clean it out?

Hi
Its not a good idea to use flavored coffee in any grinder that will grind fine. They contain sugars and chemicals that will gum up all good grinders. Use an unflavored, preferably light roast cheap if you can get it. Set your grinder on very coarse ( largest number) and make a couple coffees. This is how to clean any good grinder. Once you have ground through the chea[p stuff. you can put you beans (not flavored) and use the 3 cup to drink. That way the cheap beans will not be used in your coffee. Don't put a lot of cheap beans in the grinder. A couple of handfuls is all that is needed.

It always grinds very fine. I am unable to change the coarseness of the grin.

That one is hard to explain but I will try. On the front of the grinder is the adjustment wheel, on the wheel is a small screw, if you put your hand on the wheel it might be about 1/4 inch from the front, back up screw about 1/2 turn or more then make sure the grinder is on 3 or espresso, make sure you can pull out front part of the wheel ONLY. If not back up screw a little more and try again, now that it can move freely without moving the numbers, pull it out and turn it to about 5 or 6 then turn grinder on and very SLOWLY, (This is the dangerous part do not go to fast or you could damage the grinder) turn towards trukish grind when you get close you will hear the burrs slightly touching. Back off the knob a little just before the touching part and turn grinder off. Then pull knob out and turn it to turkish and set screw.

Does not grind evenly When I try to grid a coarse grind for french press coffee I get a lot of small grinds.

I was a little confused at first but where ir says coarse on the adjustment "wheel" is actually the fine setting. If you want coarse you need to turn it the opisite direction. If you look cloosely you will notice there is an arrow beside where it says coarse pointing to the right and beside where it says fine there is an arrow pointing left. It kind of makes no sense, but I guess since they've been making it for like 70 years they figure why fix it. I hope this helps, I had the same problem the first time I used mine, and the manual doesn't really mention it.

How can I ajust my machine the coffee is coming out weak and watery I don't get that creamy, strong coffee anymore

HI
There are more than a few things that can cause weak coffee.
Grind is too coarse. It should look like coarse sugar.
You cleaned the brew unit and left a part out or put it in incorrectly.
Grind adjustment is set too high. Turn to a lower # while the grinder is operating.
Grinder is been taken apart and not put back together correctly.
Grinder is broken and the grinds are just big chunks.

My Bunn Grinder sounds like it is jammed. I have power but no mov

First turn grinder to coarse setting and try grinding some white rice through it, that will clean out the coffee oils, if that does not work then the you will have to open the grinder and clean out the burr chamber and the spout for the grounds.

Grinder setting stops at drip. Can't turn further to espresso.

Another suggestion is while the grinder is off, turn it up side down and rotate the bean hopper from coarse to fine a couple of times. This will clean out grounds that have gotten into the threads and it will prevent the bean hopper from not turning to a finer grind.
If you start to get a clog in your grinder, open it up to a coarse grind for a few seconds. The coarser grind will clean out the chute and then you can turn it down again while it is still grinding.
