Its due to having a bad lid switch or a bad lid pin here is a video on how to replace the lid switch http://www.youtube.com/user/RepairClinic?v=MFsvLiuTniU&feature=pyv&ad=5454771221&kw=lid%20switch&gclid=CMn9h7G746cCFQ10gwodsQcW_Q
you can also find the part if you go to www.marcone.com under contact us there is a 1800 number sec just need some clarification on one thing when you close the lid it works fine the lid switch needs to be activated for the unit to work unless you were to jump the connection of the lid switch with a jumper wire. also check that the small pin that depresses the lid switch is intact on the machine as well if you have any further questions message me back and please remember when our chat has fully concluded to rank how this opinion has helped it allows me to help others in similar situations Thanks Rick

The lid switch is worn internally and is not activating properly when the lid activator hits it. You will need to replace the switch. I have posted a link to a video on how to repair it.

I have a kenmore 70 series that wont drain. It washes and agitates, but wont drain what could be the problem

It sounds like the lid switch. Open the lid and depress the switch (with a pencil or similar) until it clicks. Then see if it spins. If it does not, replace the switch. If it does spin, check the plastic "pin" on the lid to be sure it hasn't broken off. It has to depress the switch when the lid is closed. The pin should be about 5/8" long.

I got kenmore 70 series. it doesnot spin but it

You have a bad lid switch . This is the piece , the lid actuator piece , goes down onto , in the hole on the top . Try putting a screwdriver into the hole , to activate the switch , to drain the water and to spin the clothes dry enough to remove , until the switch can be replaced .

Kenmore 70 Series Washer

The lid switch is bad . You can either replace it , or bypass it under the control panel . Try putting a pencil down into the hole on the top where the lid actuator goes into to see if it drains and spins .

Won't spin, makes clunking noise, drains fine

If it agitates fine , with normal noise , drains with lid closed , then the problem is probably the transmission .

Kenmore 70 series Washer will not drain and spin

You have a bad lid switch . Try inserting something into the hole on the top and see if that starts the machine in drain/spin . If not , still bad lid switch . If so , tells you still bad lid switch .

Why My Kenmore 70 Series Washer Won't Drain Or Spin?

You need to replace the lid switch. This is located under the case. you have to take the case off to change this part. This is done by taking the 2 screws out of the front of the control panel. Then flip the panel back and remove the 2 brass clips that hold on the case. Then you can remove the whole washer case to get acces to the lid switch. This is a very common problem and an easy problem to fix.

Washer agitates, drains OK, but spin doesn't start

Timer is defective. Your unit has a netural drain. When finished agitating, the shuts down and then starts up reversing to drain and spin. On the initial reverse start, the water drains without the transmission spinning. After a timed period 3-4 minutes, the timer is supposed to pause, stopping the motor for a few seconds. When the motor stops again, the transmission shift to the spin cycle and when the timer resumes power tothe motor it should spin. You are doing the same thing when you lift the lid...stopping the timer and then the tranny shifts and when you set the lid down, the washer spins. Replace the timer.......

Washer will wash and drain but not spin

Sounds like the lid switch is not working. It is a safety feature to prevent the washer from spinning if the lid is open.If you look a the lid,you will see a small point that sticks out,The switch is locate under the rim, right where that point would contact with lid closed.

Kenmore 70 Series Washer

Most likely you need to replace the lid switch.
Open the lid and make sure the actuator that pushes the switch is still attached to the lid. Use a pen or screwdriver to depress the switch through the hole in the top of the cabinet, you should hear a click as the switch closes. I usually find that the switch has actually broken off from the cabinet and is hanging loose in the machine.
To replace the switch
Remove the screws that hold the console to the cabinet. Flip the console up and back like opening a car hood. unplug the wire connector for the lid switch. Pop out the two clips that hold the cabinet to the rear panel of the washer. The cabinet will tilt forward and slide off the machine base. You can now replace the switch from inside the cabinet.
If you need further help, please post the complete model number from the washer so I can see exactly how your washer is set up.
