Purely coincidental, the wii wouldnt have cause the sound failure, your dvd could have been playing and the same thing would have happened, connect the wii up it will work fine

Our Wii use to work but now it can not read any disk. We unplugged it and tried it again and same issue. What can I do?

It sounds as if your disk drive is burnt out. there are 3 solutions. One, buy a new wii (not reccomended...wait for the WiiU maybe? or get a new wii after the wiiu has came out because the Wii's price will drop). Two, Get your wii repaired. Three, convert it to load from usb. this is legal as long as you OWN THE GAMES YOU PLAY! This last solution can either cost money (hardmod) or is free if you have a compatible Wii (softmod) if you wish to try the last option, email me and i can assist you. When i go on the sd card to play games, It says "an error has occured. Press and hold the power button to turn it off. Please the Nintendo operations manual for help troubleshooting? PLease help, I...

Is this a Nintendo Wii? If so, not all games will work directly from the SD card.
If the console shuts down straight away just by accessing the SD card menu, then it's probably just the SD card itself causing the problem.

Make sure you are using the correct type of SD card. Also, make sure you have no corrupt files (i.e. music, photos, pirated games). here's some information Nintendo have posted themselves regarding SD card compatability:

Not all SD Cards are compatible with the Wii console. Please read the following:

  • The Wii console is only compatible with SD Cards that are 2 GB (Gigabyte) or less. Cards with a capacity higher than 2 GB will likely not work with the Wii console.
  • SD Cards with a slow speed may experience slow transfer time when loading files, or may not work at all. Slow transfer times can also occur with SD Cards that have a great number of files on them.
  • While any SD Card with the above specifications may work, Nintendo has licensed specific SD Cards for use with the Wii console. You can identify these cards by the Nintendo Seal on the packaging of the SD Card.

Back - light problem. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis.
http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/
To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement. To some models sets, the back-light inverter and SMPS section circuit will be integrated at its main board itself. If so; the main board should be replaced. To some models of sets, all these section circuit will be integrated at its main board. If this is the case, you have to replace the main board.

Data transfer

Basically you need an SD card.

Located in the "Save Data" section of the "Data Management" area of the Wii Settings Save Data are the files created when you save a game's progress (such as high scores, items found, and where the game last saved), as well as data for certain Wii Channels

This data is stored in this section separately from the Wii Channel data, and can be kept, copied, or deleted independently of the Wii Channel it is used for.

Copy the Save Data to an SD Card, then delete it from the Wii
Most Save Data, including Virtual Console or WiiWare save files, can be copied to a compatible SD Card. This gives you the ability to delete that data, then copy it back over from the SD Card to your Wii should you wish to get it back at a later time. (Be sure to copy the data back over to the Wii when you wish to use it again; simply having the SD Card inserted with the data on it will not allow it to be used.)

Hooking wii to computer

Wii's aren't designed to be hooked to a computer monitor, but basically it's gonna boil down to your video card and software. Odds are, you're gonna have a lag no matter what you do when since it has to be processed by the cpu before it can be displayed.
