Question about HP HEWLETT Compaq 515 QL-64 14 250/3GB Pc - FM948UTABA FM948UTABA (FM948UT) PC Notebook
Old old COMPAQ the dead company and now HP dead.(new owners for 16 years ago (2001)
no operation system stated, how can any one help you lacking that.
nor if all Microsoft updates are loaded.?
XP or W7?
this LT works with any USB Desktop keyboard made, try that yet>?
one just plugs it in ,and goes dingg-dongg and it works. (PnP magic)
if that works that means the local keyboard is bad. or connectors loose. or virus infected,or HP drivers messing or messed up for KBD.
we cant guess head phones.?
there are 2 kinds,
1: real with 2 plugs, mini phone jacks, mic/speaker,
2: USB (with hidden inside sound chips)
they are not even near the same technology.!
i can tell you that skype can choose either, or use control panel.
on my PC, the windoz task bar has a speaker ICOn
i click it and can pick , my internal sound chip sound
or pick the USB Head/phone sound system, yes, usb has a 2nd sound system
making it 2 systems now.. only you can pick. 1
IF this is XP, good luck. (the worst of the worst) here.

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Looks like there is some problem with the stereo headphone connector. As its a hardware issue, I would recommend sending it to the service center.
You may also use external speakers temporarily.

This sounds alot like a virus i once had!
try a system restore to the point before these problems occured. if that doesnt work run a full virus scan. If that doesnt fix the problem you may have to wipe the hard drive completly.

can you check if the driver is properly installed?
- go to start, point to computer, right click then click manage, click device manager and see whether you have an exclamation mark or "X" sign on one of your devices. if yes, you need to un-install first the driver, restart machine, re-install the driver properly.

The keyboard takes a lot of abuse and as durable as it is, they will eventually wear out. It is a very inexpensive part to replace and does not require a lot of skill. The fact that the touch pad is acting up could indicate that they are interconnected. I would replace both. The Touch pad is a more involved part to replace and I would suggest you get some help or pay to have it replaced.
You can order them off of sites like eBay, then watch a YouTube video on how to do it.
