Question about Garden

The TI 10000 LXI purchased new 10 months ago ...hasn't been used until now. When attempting to start ...the battery was dead. The battery was removed and placed on a battery charger; however, the battery was defective and would not take a charge. So, I purchased a new battery and while attempting to install it; I encountered an arc when attaching the negative terminal to the negative cable ...(this indicated to me that there was a short somewhere in the equipment. I need information on where to look for possible trouble areas where such shorts night occur. Please advise.

My question and problem is not with a chain saw ...it is a 10,000 watts gas powered generator made by Tahoe Power Equipment. Do you have any suggestions for what to look for in what appears to be a short in this piece of equipment???

The response I received was for a chainsaw which was not even my equipment item ...actually, my question was for a TI10000 LXI Gas powered Generator (Tahoe Powerquip).

The trouble I am having is with an electrical short in the equipment somewhere, because the battery arcs when trying to attach the negative cable. The generator is new and when used for the first time had a dead battery which would not take a charge and when a new battery replacement was installed the arc was discovered as to a problem with a short somewhere. What I am requesting is the possible areas that I need to investigate as to where the short could most likely occur. I have checked the most obvious places such as exposed wires and such.

(I even placed a breaker between the ground and negative post on the battery so after starting I could switch off to eliminate battery drain when not in use ...but this is simply a temporary fix while waiting for an answer to the problem so it can be fixed permanently).

Hi,
There cannot be a whole lot of possibilities...
I would take off the positive wire...hookup the negative and then start tracing the hot or positive side with an electric meter...
If the unit is brand new I am thinking that a wire is hooked up wrong..
either on the starter soleniod or the start switch...
possibly even a defective start switch....unhook the hot wire there and see what happens...

then go from there...

Make sure that there are no bare wires anywhere from the positive terminal of the battery.
Check that the ON/OFF switch is truly open.
If there is a key switch, then that is the ON/OFF switch.
You can make a test light by taking a bulb and holder and connecting it between the positive terminal and the positive connector. If you get a light, keep looking for places that there could be shorts.

Take out one battery. While holding the "On" button, put the battery back in. I can honestly not explain what happened, but it has happened to me multiple times as well. You might have to do this more than once, but within a few attempts, it should start working again. Tell me how it works out, and hope this helps!

Engine wont turn over at start

Hi, Do you have an alarm & Immobiliser fitted on your bike as these drain the battery on your bike very quickly? If so i would recommend removing your battery and fully charging it with a decent amp-age charger. If you have your garage attached to your house then i would definitely recommend purchasing a trickle charger and when not using your bike keep this plugged into the mains and you should not have this problem again. all motorbike shops sell these chargers If after this the battery goes flat again i would suggest purchasing a new battery. This is a common fault as most motorbikes sit in the garage through the winter months and if not kept on charge will deteriorate. Hope this helps.
