Question about Sony Bravia KDL40HX800 40 in. LCD 3D HDTV

Open Question

I have purchased an HX46800 after using an XBR40 full HD for 3 years. The picture on the new set doesn't seem as sharp as the older LCD set except when the source is 1080. It is very unforgiving for even 576 picture source and the picture becomes less than sharp, especailly on long shots - sometimes looking almost blurry. The older set seemed to accomodate most HD sources with a sharper picture. Is this common or do I have a dud? tks Mike Goss

SOURCE: Sony 52" Bravia LCD will drop picture and sound for 1-2 seconds

the only thing that i can think of is that the cables and connections are bad but if that is not the case it may be the internal components of the tv. my guess is that the tv was dropped or jumbled around while transported and what happened was internal components were broken or just mixed up so go to the retailer and get a refund or a new tv. hope this helps

I have a 1080 with 120 and my picture is not clear. If it's not a hd channel it really is terrible and if it is hd channel it still is not in full focus. The picture is not sharp. I am really disappointed...

I am assuming your set is new. Ask for it to be serviced under warranty. This sounds like your set is defective for some reason.
LCD TV sets are known for their exceptional sharpness and performance when having a good quality signal source, and especially with an HD programs.

Blurry picture when hooked up to direct tv.Why?

try lowering the sharpness on your tv, because if the sharpness is to high it will make NonHD objects look blurry, also try changing the input cable or type of input.

The black lines are because you are playing the analog 4:3 picture on a newer 16:9 shaped screen. If you don't have the manual, you can get it by going to www.sharpusa.com and search for your tv model listed. The user guide is available in pdf format.

According to page 35, you need the "view mode" button on your remote. You sound like you want it set to "S" for "Stretch".

enjoy your TV,

Vertival Color Lines

We had the same thing happen to us on the right-hand side. A technician told us yesterday that the Motorola Cable Box (supplied by Shaw Cable) places a border on Non-True HD Channels. Because we didn't place our picture setting to 'full-screen' each time we viewed these channels and burn line was created. He gestimated a replacement screen runs about $800.00 Canadian, but we have a 3 year extended warranty and will receive a new TV. He also said it happens on all big screen tv's that use a cable box creating borders on Non-True HD Channels.
