I think, your TV gives High Bright Green Light on screen and then goes to standby. Its indication of defective Green CRT (Picture Tube). Rear projection TV has 3 CRTs i.e Red-Green-Blue. In your case, Green CRT seems defective and need to be replaced.

This is a problem due to heating of some component in the power board or main board

this is the reason for the unit to turn off with out any reason.

this can be due to a bad component or a bad connection.

you will have to manually inspect the board for the problem.

The safety switch is turning off TV by itself. It menas there is a problem inside tv, a short, a blown capacitor od a faulty IC. Pcbs must be tested with a multimeter. Unless you are an expert electronic DIYer you will need a technician to fix this.

Hi,

this often indicates that the built-in protection system has kicked in to prevent any (further) damaged to the TV unit. Depending on the brand and model, the lights would be blinking signifying a code that could lead to the probable area of fault.

Initially, you could try to reset (unplug from the mains for a few hours), hoping that it is just a glitch and with the reset, system would revert back to factory defaults.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back on the make and model, how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Do you hear any ticking sound while it turns off?

and are you able to see any blinks of the red light in a particular pattern?

that will help to decode the problem easily

t does sound like a bulb problem, either its over heating and shutting off to protect itself, or its already shot. Give a TV repair shop a call and see if they can give you an approximate price, then decide to ditch or repair it.

It's been a while since this post, but I may have had a similar problem with my Hitachi. With no reason it would switching on and off randomly. The problem was with a solder joint on main relay - it was cracked and would not keep the coil powered so i kept flickering on/off. This relay is located on the front of pcb, between high voltage area and the switch and on my tv it is blue. Check all four joints and apply some new solder onto them. Make sure the tv is not connected to mains ;-) Hope this helps

GE 31GT740 clicks off and on

Dead, led flashing red/green at first, then going to red standby
Replace C604 (1000uF, 16v) elec. cap. It is in the decoupling circuit for the 5 volt supply
Reverts to standby from switch on via TV or Video
No 5v rail because FET MTP3055 o/c. (BUZ71 will do nicely)
Goes straight to standby, after a quick burst of power
Replaced R952 (39K), had gone slightly high

Loewe Aconda 9381 HD/DR+ Will not switch

Could be loss of voltage on secondary or problem on Power supply. Check 4/5 (depnding on chassis) wickman fuses on secondary if none are o/c then replace power supply components with Kit from Loewe. Part number 90415.900.

Should take tv engineer about 1 hour (max) to replace parts form kit.
