Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

Radiant heater, natural gas. Piezoelectric starter seems to work perfectly, nice healthy spark, right where it should be. Gas flows like it should but it doesn't light with the piezoe. It lights right away with a lighter. I cleaned the nozzle; it was not dirty. It used to work on the first push of the piezoe, then it took a few times now you could bang on it 50 times before it lights. I tried adjusting the position of the electrode but it looks perfect. Whats up??

Disconnect (pull off) the wire from the piezo pin on the bottom of the piezo, then slide it back on. If it had lost it's ground, which I think it did, that should solve the problem.

No spark. My HSU75NG MR. Heater (Big Maxx) will not start on its own. It purges fine ,calls for heat fine, gas flows fine; BUT there is no spark from the Electrode Igniter. Which I have replaced. The

The capacitor in that unit is for starting the motor that drives the blower fan. It has no impact on the ignition of the gas burner. On the control board, there is a light that should be flashing, can you tell us how many times it is flashing?

Check that gas is turned ON. Gas handle is parallel same direction as gas line.

Make sure that type of gas matches water heater. Natural gas and propane gas are two different types of gas. check label on side of tank for type of gas NG or LP.

Kenmore Elite He3 gas dryer (110-92832100) not heating. Igniter glows red for a min or so, drum spins, hear a loud 'buzzing' noise....

The problem could be flame radiant sensor or in most cases the gas valve solenoid coils sitting on top of the gas valves. The radiant sensor must be aligned perfectly with the igniter. The radiant sensor contacts bypasses one of the gas valve solenoid coils and as the igniter heats up it makes the sensor contact trips unbypassing the coil and allowing the gas to flow and be ignited.

The problem is with the solenoid coils,
one with 2-prongs and the other has 3, if the radiant sensor is aligned with igniter and working perfectly but no gas is ignited. The buzzing sound is coming from the coils trying to operate the valves. Replacing both coils is the simple and only viable solution.

I have a rinnai LPG 6 burner gas heater, it starts fine but wont ignite the middle left burner. It has a blue flame over the top that occasionally radiates down the burner. All the other 5 burners work...

sounds like the injector hole is too largefor that burner have you had it converted reciently
lpg injectors are only half the size hole of natural gas injector, could have a blockage in the injector diverting the gas flow

Bosch 1600H won't work on windy days

The incorporation of an anti-back flow, flue pipe insert may be your solution, also the pilot flame control may need to be adjusted up a little.

Good luck

Turning on a radiant heater

whoo tall order! well, since that unit uses a piezo crystal spark gap that's half the battle. go to the grainger site and find a 24 volt electrically operated solenoid for gas use. anything else won't do. next go to the white rodges web site and find a spark igniter with a flame rod flame detector 24 volt. you'll also need at least a 500va 120/24 volt transformer. a standard honeywell stat will do. I'm thinking the unit uses a millivolt generator to keep the gas valve open. you could substitute a mercury button cell to energize the pilot valve and keep the valve open. give me your email addy and I'll see if I can draw up a diagram for you.
