The dryer runs just doesn't get hot. is it the heating element or is there a fuse somewhere?

More than likely the heater element has failed. typically there are no fuses for this application. Also, be sure that you have 220 volts at plug receptacle outlet, you may only have 110 volts feeding dryer and it requires 220 volts for heating unit and all other operations of the dryer. Hope this helps to answer your question.

Does this dryer require 110 or 220 amps?

A gas dryer usually only takes 110 volts not amps. All electric dryers take 220 volts.

No heat

You need to verify the unit has 220 volts supplying it, your heating element requires 220 voltage to function properly. Here a video on how to check it. If your not familiar on how to verify volt at the receptacle DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS - GET A QUALIFIED TECHNICIAN TO IT FOR YOU!

I have a electric dryer Model WED5810SW0 THAT I WAS TOLD I COULD CONVERT TO 120V from 240v is this true and if so how do i do this?

If you consider doing this the first thing is SHUT THE MAIN BREAKER OFF. Use an auxiliary light source to see when working in a dead panel. Always keep in mind an ARC FLASH ACROSS HOT MAINS HAS ENOUGH HEAT TO PEAL THE SKIN OFF OF YOU. Before an explanation of how to do it you should keep in mind that this is for a single receptacle only. If any other receptacles are on the same circuit they will also be changed to 240 volt receptacles and if you plug any 120 volt device into them, the 120 volt device will be destroyed. That said OK, any 120 volt outlet can be changed to 240 volt by removing the 120 volt circuits neutral, re identifying the white wire with red or black phase tape and connecting it to a new 2 pole 15 amp breaker. The maximum that this circuit will now load up to is, on #14 wire at 80% = 12 amps at 240 volts. The 120V receptacle must be changed to a 15A - 240V receptacle so that 120 volt devices can not be plugged into it. Never use 2 single pole breakers together because code requires that on a fault trip both legs of the 240V circuit must be disconnected simultaneously. Our 2-way converters are voltage transformers that convert power from both 220 to 110 volts and 110 to 220 volts. They also work with 100 volts, 110 volts, 120 volts, 220 volts and 240 volts. Light is on in drum but it won't turn on

You need to verify that there is around 220 volts connected to the dryer with a volt meter. The light only requires 120 volts, but the dryer motor and heater require 220 volts. Also you should go to the electrical panel and locate the breaker for the dryer. It will have 2 switches connected together and should say '30' on it. Try shutting off the switches making sure both are completely in the "OFF" position, then switching them back "ON". A tripped breaker needs to be completely shut off in order to reset. Now test dryer again. Good Luck.

CAN A 220 BE CONVERTED TO A 110

If you mean can a 220 volt dryer be converted to run on 110, the answer is no. It needs the higher voltage to run the heating elements. It would be possible to make a 110 volt electric dryer, but it would require very thick wire and a very large breaker to handle the amperage that would be required. Sorry I couldn't give you better news.

Dryer is overheating and blowing circuit

Electric dryers use 220 volts or two power lines of 110 volts each. Some components in the dryer need only 110 volts; the heating element requires 220 volts. So it's possible for one part of the dryer to be fine and another part to have a short circuit. Short circuits can be caused by the heating element, the main power cord, or any other part of the internal wiring. To decide where the problem lies, unplug the dryer, then:

  • If the circuit breakers or fuses remain on and/or intact when the dryer is unplugged, it's likely the problem is with the dryer. Contact a qualified appliance repair technician.

  • If the circuit breaker trips or the fuse blows when the dryer is unplugged, it's likely the problem is with the house wiring, fuse box, or circuit box. Contact a qualified electrician.

Where can I locate the blown fuse/s of a frigidaire dryer?

There are no user servicable fuses in the machine, I believe they are talking about your breaker box.
A 220 dryer requires two 110 volt circuits to run the 220 volt heater
The motor and control circuits only require 110 and are run from only one of these two lines. If the other line blows the dryer will still run but there will be no heat.
Good Luck

CTD00 Dryer spining but no heat

first you need to establish that you have the proper voltage to the unit. Even though the motor runs, it (the motor) only requires 110 volts. The heat requires 220 volts. The only way to check is with a volt meter.

Maytag model MDE7057AYW 5600 Watts dryer runs ,but

5600 watts will not operate off 120 volts.
This is a 220/240 volt hookup.
There are 2 legs of 120 volts each that operate the dryer.
The only part requiring 220v is the heater.
Otherwise 120v routes through the various controls and relays.
